More dealer / salesman BS.

There is a TDA (Toyota Dealer Advertising) that Toyota charges all dealerships on all their cars and it varies per model. TDA for Rav 4 EV is $926, that explains the discrepancy from NADA.

FWIW, I do recall seeing "advertising fees" for various cars, including Toyotas. $926 for the Rav4 EV seems out of whack considering I've seen 0 ads anywhere for the car: none online, none on the radio, none on TV.

Great find!! Thank you, Tony. A West Los Angeles resident is interested to know:

* Which dealers are offering the new RAV in west Los Angeles area?
* Do you have a feel as to which is the most competent to handle any (unlikely) technical issues with the vehicle?

Since I live in NoCal so I have no clue. Any new finds and suggestions is appreciated.

The dealer who likely sells the most is Carson Toyota in west LA. Dianne Whitmore is the contact there.

I suspect all 55 of the dealers were officially trained, but as to competence, I don't know. I've had my battery dropped at Carlsbad Toyota (north San Diego county) when the Blink melted my charging pins and now they are going to replace my motor because of gearbox whine.

The Carlsbad folks actually do go the "extra mile", so I can recommend them. When I called the dealer that sold the car for a maintenance issue, the service rep really didn't even know the car existed. I just wrote that dealer completely off.

I think a good "test" of a RAV4 EV servicing dealer's competence would be whether or not that dealer's Service Manager(s) has heard of the scheduled charging problem. If not, that is a clear sign that dealer is not staying abreast of all our specific servicing needs. When this issue finally gets resolved (hopefully soon!) my expectation is that all authorized dealers will make a reasonable effort to contact their 2012 (2013?) RAV4 EV customers to schedule a corrective action whatever that might be. Hopefully, Toyota will send our letters to all of us as well, but the dealers will play an integral role in accomplishing any and all warranty repairs.

I bought my Rav4 EV from Carson Toyota yesterday. I worked with Greg Bowman. Very low pressure transaction and a good discount as well. He also quickly followed up with me on some additional questions I had after the sale.

Where did you see that? SoCal looks like it is still showing ending 3/4/13.

In SoCal, they're still showing 3/4, but they've added a couple lease options I didn't see before.

LEASE:
$399 per month, $4,999 Drive-off PLUS $10,000 Lease Cash on a new 2012 RAV4

LEASE:
Get $0 Drive-off and only $529 per month PLUS $10,000 Lease Cash on a new 2012 RAV4

That's 3 yrs in a Rav4 EV for $6.5k (considering CA rebate)!! Talk about buyer's remorse!

Looks like SoCal must still be figuring out what they are doing.

Get 0.0% APR for 60 months PLUS $10,000 Finance Cash on a new 2012 RAV4EV

What is interesting is that they have already updated some of the deals to reflect a 4/1/13 end date but most still say 3/4/13.

How are you getting to $6.5k? You don't get the $7500 tax credit if you lease, Toyota does.

I plugged in a So Cal zip and it currently shows expiring today. No Cal now shows:

$529 * 36 - $10000 - $2500 = $6544.

Is that how the lease cash works? Wouldn't that mean it would lower your monthly payment? Am I doing the math right?

$529*36=$19,044 - $10,000 = $9,044/36 = $251.22 monthly + $2500 state rebate

My guess is that they have a typo... notice the NoCal site says "$489/mo + tax after $7k bonus cash". Probably they're trying to say the same for SoCal, that the $10k cash is already figured in. Else it would pretty insane (and dramatically cheaper than in NoCal).

Full text of NoCal offer:
Lease a 2012 RAV4 EV for $489 a mo. + tax after $7,000 Bonus Cash

$489 per month for 36 months
$2,199 due at signing
After $8,800 Bonus Cash is applied.
Offer Ends 4/1/2013

If it is a typo, does anyone think that Toyota would honor it?

2 weeks ago, I bought my RAV4EV for about 40k which includes the $7000 cash back on financing with TFS. Now it's $8800 (in NorCal), which made me wish I had held off buying this car. Is there any way to re-negotiate the financing with TFS to change to the new terms? Has anyone tried this?
