I have a blink level 2 charger with built in timer
I want to use its timer instead of the buggy rav4 timer
the blink timer work perfect for my nissan leaf, but not for Rav4
the rav4 "unplug" 10 minutes later

here is what I do:
set the rav4 charge to "charge immediately"
blink charge timer already set up to charge 12am everyday
plug in the charger, the blink recolonize the plug in and start show the count down timer to charging
10 ~ 15 minutes later the blink show no car plug in
if I open any of the four door, it seem rav4 wake up and blink show the count down timer again, but stop 10 minutes later again.

is it a bug, are there a fix for this?

thanks

There must be something in the handshake between the Blink and the Car. I don't believe the car goes to sleep because I use an external timer on a Clipper Creek. I often plug in to the car when the CC is off and at a few minutes past midnite the CC goes on and the car gets charged. The car often gets plugged in late in the afternoon so the wait is often 8 hours. Is there a way you can completely turn off or unplug your Blink? If you can, then see if the car recognizes it and begins charging when you turn the Blink on again. If that works then the fix (more of a workaround) is that you need to use an external timer.

add a timer before blink won't work, blink is a complicated charger, it will need a unplug-plug cycle after boot up

there is two work around:
wakeup in midnight and open the car door then close it
leave the radio on to keep car computer from sleep

..........

Are you saying that after boot up of the Blink when plugged into your car, that you have to unplug the J1772 from the car and reinsert it in order for the car to begin charging?

Have you had the firmware updated on your car? Blink timer compatibility is an issue that Toyota knows about and most of the firmware update issues are allegedly charging related. I know EVSE compatibility is one of the things that Toyota is trying to address with the firmware updates.

Also, has your Blink charger had its current turned down or it's J-1772 handle replaced? You want to make sure one of those things has been done so you don't end up with melted pins.

I just lease my car few days ago, my sale person told me my car firmware is up to date -- I think I need to double check on this
my blink firmware is up to date, I did not change the J-1772 handle, nor do I know if my charger need to turn down the current

if blink boot up and the handle already plug in, the blink will display "charge deployed", you have to unplug and plug back..

is the blink or rav4 did not follow the J1772 protocol? my nissan leaf, on the other hand, works perfect with blink

I just swapped my Chevy Volt for a new Rav4 EV. I love the new ride. But I am having the exact same problem as you. I checked with Dianne (my salesperson at Carson Toyota) and the firmware is the latest and up to date. I have my Blink unit (detuned to 16 amps) set to turn on at midnight to take advantage of SCE's TOU rate plan. But it seems the car falls "asleep" and the charging never starts unless I "wake up" the vehicle by opening the door. If I do that after midnight, then the charging starts right away and the vehicle charges to full.

Now if I set the Blink Charger to charge immediately upon plug-in, and set the Rav to begin charging based upon the time of departure setting, it doesn't work either. Every time, regardless of how full or empty the battery, the charge begins immediately upon plug in.

Any ideas would be great.

This the reply I received from Blink regarding this issue:

"Unfortunately, a feature on the RAV4 EV is that it will terminate any charging session set on it if the session does not begin within 15 minutes of plugging in. If your car has an onboard charge scheduling system, you should use that instead. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know. "

My workaround is to use a separate timer that cuts off all current to the EVSE. I am only using a 240v 20Amp EVSE so finding parts rated at 30Amps was easy, I used a 120v timer switch and a relay, but you can also use an Intermatic pool pump timer which is rated at 30Amps. You would need higher rated parts if you were using a Leviton or 30Amp EVSE.

My car doesn't go to sleep because it doesn't know I am plugged in until the timer turns on the current at midnite.
