I don't know what the recommended service intervals are.

The major things that need to be done on the RAV4 EV other than routine inspections are the following:

Replace Battery Coolant - Every 4 years or 40,000 miles
Replace Motor/Inverter Coolant - Every 4 years or 40,000 miles
Replace Heater Coolant - After 10 years or 10,000 miles, then every 5 years or 50,000 after that.

The first two are the blue Tesla G48 coolant and the Heater uses the standard pink Toyota SLLC ethylene-glycol coolant.

Consumables are wiper fluid, wiper blade refills and cabin air filter. Filling or replacing these does not require tools.
I don't consider brake pads to be consumables on this car because my pads and discs still look new after 40,000 miles.

The big one is the traction battery coolant. That one costs, from what I read in past posts, 500 to 800 dollars USD. Have not checked myself, but at least from previous posts it is expensive. PER THIS POST HERE:

I just bought a friends RAV4 EV and took it in to Walnut Creek Toyota for the 40k service. I asked them to change the inverter and battery coolant. ....... They charged $200 for the inverter and $200 for the battery. It was hard for me to let them do it because I have always worked on my own cars in the past. I obtained the service manual and found that I can do the inverter easily. The battery coolant requires a purge using "Rav4EV diagnostic tool in DLC3 No 2". .......... I called Fremont Toyota and they wanted to charge $260 for each service. Milpitas was too busy to give me an estimate.

So if this is any true you can do the inverter yourself but the traction battery coolant requires you to used the "Rav4EV diagnostic tool in DLC3 No 2". I think it opens some sort of valve or something for emptying, not sure.

However, now that tesla is opening up their service tools I was told by Tony that you can get the rav4ev tools from Toyota now, so you might just be able to do the service yourself and save a lot of money. The G48 coolant costs around $30 per gallon I believe.

I took my car over to Longo in El Monte and the quote for replacing two coolants was $800+. Is this quote correct and is it mandatory on a lease since the maintenance schedule says 50K miles or 60 months?

Magnussan Toyota in Palo Alto gave a quote of $475 to flush both G48 coolent for the battery and motor. Approx. 2 hours labor and 4 gallons of G48 @ $40 per gallon. *Then someone updated with* $687 today at the same dealer.

As this post has been quiet for a while, curious if now that more time has passed if other folks have had the 50K service done yet and how much it cost? I was just quoted $707.00 at Carson Toyota here in Southern California. Had no idea the fluid change out would be so expensive. I did receive lower quotes from both Cabe Toyota and Hamer. Definitely worth calling various dealers as the 50k service price seems to vary quite a bit.

If you are capable I personally say do it yourself and share a nice video for all of us to learn with . I can't because I have not gone to school/know enough about cars to do it other wise I'd do it .

Just received my cable in the mail today. Made the following customizations in less than 5 minutes:

Turned OFF seatbelt beeps (driver's and passengers)
Turned OFF reverse beeps (set to single beep)
Changed auto light timer to 0 (headlights if set to auto will immediately turn off after opening driver door)
Changed wireless unlock to single press (one press unlocks all doors)

In case anyone is wondering how to install the software and cable drivers. I used an old Macbook running Windows 7 32-bit in Bootcamp. Here are the instructions:

2) Download the MVCI driver, TISKey,exe, and PDF instructions. Follow the instructions verbatim (including selecting Europe as country) I used the latest version of TIS from step 1 https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=75C933EE49501E9A&id=75C933EE49501E9A%21126
3) ENJOY!

Not sure just how much you can do with this. Not sure if you could do the traction battery flush with this. Someone more knowledgeable needs to chime in.

It took a little bit of fussing around with the software to get it installed, but once everything is talking to each other it was very simple to adjust configurable settings like reverse beeps, lighting delays, door unlocking. I like being able to do this myself.

I'm posting some of the comments from Amazon on the above product:

Works great on lexus also, which I figured but still a small chance it wouldn't.

Pros:

Works great and allows you to change all those pesky dealer only options, but it also allows you to run realtime diagnostics and see real time values for all sorts of well....EVERYTHING...

Its about as cheap as cheap can get, price wise. For less than 25% of the price of 1 dealer option change you can own this. The product is great.

Cons:

The instructions suck (I will post proper instructions at the bottom for installing the software)

I am getting a malware warning but nothing a good antivirus wont catch and get rid of.

And thats about it on the Cons.

Now on to the install instructions:

1. Windows XP ONLY nothing else will work.
2. Put the mini cd in and copy and extract all the files to a folder on your desktop.
3. First install "Toyota Techstream 8.00.034.exe"
4. Then install "Techstream_Update_V8.10.021.exe"
5. Then install "J2534 - Mangoose Pro.exe"
6. Then install "MVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi"

you will be prompted to plug in the adapter and do so when you and enter the key from the "TISKEY.exe" file when prompted.

It is an awesome tool.

First off let me tell you this works 100% on my 2012 FJ Cruiser! Very pleased with the result, wanted to get rid of the annoying no seat belt warning buzzer.

!!PLEASE BE AWARE!!: This does not work on Windows 7 64 bit. It will run on Windows 8 32 bit. It will run on Windows 7 32 bit and was made for Windows XP (Either 32 or 64 bit work excellent)

A previous comment on here says you should be tech savy to use this cable. Very true.

If you have Something other than the previous Operating systems, ie if you have Windows 7 64 bit or Windows 8 64 bit, this WILL NOT WORK Properly. The MVCI driver will NOT install, I can promise you that.

But do not fear, here's the important thing you need to know. You can get it to work perfectly,you just need a Virtual Machine with a bootable .iso of Windows XP (32 or 64 bit doesn't matter). Boot that and install this techstream software on the VM, then connect to your car. voila! works.

Oh, 5/5 for this cable as an alternative to the OEM $500 Mongoose cable!
