OpenEVSE has supported a Real Time Clock for quite some time. I use mine to start charging at 5 minutes past midnight. The defaults are set at 5 past midnight and 5 before 7AM. You can set any start and stop times. The way this works is that it opens up a charging window. The car should easily finish within the cheap rate window.

I have been building OpenEVSE's as a hobby and selling them for cost. . It has a multi function power meter that stores total KWH. This is resettable and survives power down, the EVSE board is a Plus DIY ver 2 with an external power supply, this controls a 50A 240V contactor. Input power is by a 40A 4 Ft range cable with a molded 14-50 plug. There is no J1772 cable. The cable gland is currently sized for a Quick Charge Power 40A cable. I can supply a Yazaki 30A 15 ft cable for the $115 it cost me from Ebay. Either cable would connect to the 60A terminal strips. I will be happy to connect the cable and test the unit. Quick Charge can drop ship the 40A cable. Everything is mounted in a 8X8X4 inch junction box.

This EVSE requires a 14-50R wired with #6 cable (40A) and a 50A breaker or #8 cable (32A) and a 40A breaker.

I am selling this for $235 without the J1772 cable. Shipping is $25. I can add the 30A J1772 cable for an additional $115 or $350 plus shipping. Local pickup in Anaheim near Disneyland is available. If it is picked up it can be seen and tested,

This is sold ASIS but I guarantee it will work upon receipt. Payment is cash for local pickup or Paypal if the unit is shipped.

I shamelessly took this from vegasbrad's add. It is a good idea to emphise the details. I have always depended on my user's common sense.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Because of lawyers I have to add this. This EVSE is intended for use ONLY by responsible adults. Because they are hand-made, they are not UL listed - but are made from UL listed parts. 240v electricity is serious business and caution should be exercised while using any EVSE. For safety's sake, do not use this EVSE outdoors in inclement weather unless it is a model that specifically says Outdoor or Waterproof. This EVSE has a GFCI built inside that protects from that point down line. (The J plug side of the the EVSE is safe for outdoors in all weather). BY PLACING AN ORDER WITH US, YOU ASSUME ALL RISK ASSOCIATED WITH USING THIS EVSE AND AGREE THAT WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY RESULT FROM THEIR USE.

This is the unit charging my B Class with a temporarily installed Yazaki cable

I really liked the display. The only problem is that it is large and it requires a large box.

I stopped making EVSEs when Mike the forum owner deleted all of my posts on My Nissan Leaf and he wanted to have me sign up as a commercial vendor. Since I was building them as a hobby and selling them at cost that option was out. Since I was making them as a service and to keep busy in my retirement stopping was easy.

Another builder was allowed to resume by paying a commission on each sale. With no profit that was not an option for me.

I read this forum daily. I tried to buy one of the last RAV4 EV's but the Toyota dealer had no interest in my Leaf as a trade-in. Given the free fall in the Leaf's value I do not really blame them.

On the other hand the Long Beach Mercedes dealer made me a deal on their slow moving B class electric drive car that I could not pass up. After 11 months I am still very happy with it.

That's kind of a shame, it would be a good unit for my e-Golf to use at RV parks, if the size and weight was minimal and it had a 14-50 Nema plug, ready to go. That, plus the 40 amp capability for the RAV.

If you're handy, just buy the kit from the OpenEVSE store and add a J1772 cable. That looks pretty good for a travel EVSE.

Or keep my eyes open for a used one for sale is another option.
