New California Corridor Fast Chargers Installed

I ran across an interesting site clicking around on Plugshare.

Plugshare - EZ Trip Travel Center, Madera, CA - 10 50kW DCFC

That's a lot of chargers. Not bad, perhaps they realize they won't be selling as much gasoline as before.

EZ Trip is part of the Pilot truck stop chain. I wonder if there will be more of these. A quick search didn't turn up anything.

10 x 50 kW, eh? The low-powered charging of yesteryear coupled with the high EV volumes of tomorrow.

Too bad they didn't put 6 x 150 kW instead...

ChargePoint CEC Sites:
Plugshare - Brady's Market, Inyokern, CA - One ChargePoint Express 250 charger, apparently set to 50kW output, plus an L2 station.

Plugshare - Mojave Denny's - Four ChargePoint Express 250 chargers, apparently set to 50kW output, plus an L2 station.

Plugshare - Groveland Visitor's Center - Two 50kW Express 200 chargers and an L2 station.

ChargePoint only has 5 more sites to open that were originally identified in CEC documents. 64 sites are operational.
Leggett, Healdsburg, Soda Springs, Kramer Junction, and Zzyzx (between Yermo and Baker on I-15).

EV Connect:
Plugshare - Arco AM/PM King City, CA - One 150kW charger. No pictures, no checkins.

Electrify America:

Looks like the Caltrans sites along I-15 on the way to Las Vegas are both open

The two Caltrans sites along 395 between Mojave and Bishop are very close: Coso Junction and Division Creek. Chargers installed, but not powered up. Heading up to Mammoth later this week, I'll check them out if I can.

The CalTrans site at the Boron Rest Area Westbound on CA-58 between Kramer Junction and Edwards also appears to be open.

ChargePoint has also opened a site on the north side of Victorville, CA that was not identified in CEC documents. It is operated by the same entity that operates the CEC funded ChargePoint sites. This is actually not a new site, I've just never noticed it before. It appears to have been open since June 2020. Of all the DCFC sites in the Hesperia - Victorville area, this one is the closest to Barstow.

Man, it's a different world from when we all started getting our JdeMOs 5 years ago.
So nice to see all the options that enable long-distance EV travel.

I love both maps and EVs, so staring at Plugshare is actually fun for me.

It's amazing how quickly the public charging network is taking off. I did LA to Vegas 18 months ago and it was a challenge to get the RAV4 from from Baker to the next fast charger in Victorville. Today, there's almost a dozen fast chargers along that same stretch.

Anything for the poor neglected southern route - I-8 East from San Diego to Phoenix? So far I'm only aware of the Electrify America(?) chargers at Bank of America in El Centro, with only one Chademo plug. I'm considering approaching the owner of the gas stations at the Jacumba exit. He spent a ton of money to put a helicopter on top of the Chevron station. Maybe he will consider a few grand for an EV charger. That would close the gap for me heading east out of San Diego.

I thought all the CalTrans chargers were 50kW, so your result at Division Creek is expected. Boron and Coso Junction rest area chargers are also open.

Among all of those sites, Quartzsite is by far the most important. Also, the Harris Ranch chargers are all 50kW. This is very strange for EA. It's OK if you're having a sit-down meal at the restaurant, but otherwise it stinks. Especially since the Panoche Road (Firebaugh) chargers have been down for an extended period. That makes a 50kW charge through that section mandatory. It's really close to being faster to detour to 101 or 99 and charge faster on 150 or 350kW chargers.

I don't know what to make of the Harris Ranch charger power. The EA app is quite clear about it. Plugshare is wrong about many chargers' power levels. I have even sent feedback on specific sites where the described power and the indicated power are different. They never changed it.

The last of the CalTrans sites are slowly coming online. These are free 50kW single CCS + CHAdeMO chargers.

Westley is about half way between Tracy and Patterson on I-5.

Maxwell is between Willows and Williams on I-5 north of Sacramento.

That leaves only Erreca NB & SB (between Santa Nella and Firebaugh on I-5), Willows NB & SB, and Lodi Park and Ride. The Southbound CV Kane (I-15 between Yermo and Baker) charger has also been installed but not commissioned for a long time. I assume that they have abandoned the Lebec Northbound Rest Area since they put 4 chargers on the Southbound side and there is a way to turn around nearby.

Also, Harris Ranch EA has been updated/upgraded to two 350kW stations plus four 150kW stations.

I did see the Maxwell charger when stopping at the rest stop (i was surprised, i didnt know they had them this far north). I was northbound at the time. The charger is right in front of the enclosure for the restrooms. Theres only one of them (CHADemo & CCS). It appeared to be online but i couldnt test it.
