I've noticed the following:

If i brake normally, i will get more regen power by pressing harder on the peddle (up to a point).

If i brake somewhat harder to start with, i will get a couple of bars of charge and then it wont go up (to more regen) no matter how hard i brake.

If i brake and get into the "2 bars only" mode, let off the brake, then brake again, it then will go back into regen breaking mode.

Has anyone else noticed this? I think what's happening is it goes directly to using the friction brakes, if you try to brake "more strongly" than a certain value. But it will reset it you momentarily let off the brakes.

I now use this trick whenever i notice the "2 bars only" braking mode active (and i have time to slow down more gradually).

Yes I've noticed this. I believe it is part of the emergency brake assist. If you hit the brake pedal too hard and too fast then the car believes you are trying to come to an emergency stop.

I always downshift to B when slowing and apply brakes slowly to come to a full stop. I get almost full regen bars this way (if decelerating from a high enough speed). The car doesn't really credit me with any of this extra work as it shows that my overall efficiency sucks. Probably the terrain and freeway speeds do me in.

The "2 Bars Only" regen also happens when you use the brake pedal to cancel the cruise control. Tapping the brake pedal to cancel, then pressing the pedal again to actually brake with full regen works. I mentioned this in the Cruise Control Observations thread.
