Yesterday my Rav4 (only 1538 miles) was plugged into 240v charger at work and I was monitoring the charge level via entune. It got up to ~60 miles, then I got a text notification from the EVConnect saying that after 17kWH the charge had slowed to a trickle, then another notification that it had stopped. That should have been just half full. So when I got to the car, the charge meter on the dash said "LO" and error on the right said "Driving not available" "Have your vehicle checked by a dealership immediately" Eek!

I've had no problems or errors in the 7 weeks I've owned the car. Is this a known problem? The Tow truck driver was very nice, and Sunnyvale toyota says they're working on it, but have no updates. I got a charge interruption notification by email today at 11:40. But no update from Toyota.

Any advice? Anyone had this midway-through-charge failure before?

Apparently there was some software that needed to be updated. I'll get more details tomorrow when I pick it up and can speak with the technicians.

Yep it was just outdated firmware. Does anyone know of a good way to get notifications of new firmware upgrades available?

I hope that the firmware update does fix your charging problem, but you may want to prepare for the case that it does not. Do you know if the dealer was able to reproduce your problem multiple times, and if the firmware update fixed it? I would be concerned that you experienced an intermittent problem, the dealer reset the error, and then s/he applied a firmware update just because it was available and thought that it *might* help. If I were in your shoes I'd ask the dealer some pointed questions to determine what was actually done.

You will soon find out if the firmware update will actually prevent your car from giving that error again. I've heard of several instances where the dealer told the customer that the problem was fixed by updating the firmware. Within days, the error came back, sometimes even worse than before. The most famous one is here.

I spoke in detail to the tech who did the 'repair' and yes, he could replicate the problem, and after the update he tested it to be sure it did not recur. I was impressed with his knowledge and thoroughness. No problems since the update, but i've only charged once since I got it back. #FingersCrossed

Excellent - sounds like you have a great tech and dealer! Can you share what dealer you used?
