I'm pretty sure they're talking about the charge level (SOC) indicated on the dashboard when the car is active. This would create more of a resonance with drivers.

I tried testing it before I replied but it was hard to deliberately drain the battery pre-climate. =P

I just got my new 2013 Rav4 ev last Friday w 8 miles and I have driven 275 miles total. What are other Rav4 EV's batteries giving for a full normal 80% charge?

I currently max out at 95 miles on a normal charge. Are there things that one can do to get a standard 105 miles in the standard 80% charge? I thought 105 is the sat advertised normal distance?

What about a couple extended charges? Does that help train the batteries to take more charge?

The dealer told me that they had he just extended charge on another car and it went to 130 miles which seems to big? Could that

Have you noticed a lot of variability from one car to the next?

Thank for posting your feedback

I wouldn't put a lot of effort trying to decode the "Guess-O-Meter". Once you learn how to determine your consumption rate (miles/kWh), the range is simply:

consumption rate * 41.8kWh = range

for "normal" charges, just use consumption rate * (41.8 * 0.80) = range

At 65mph on level ground, the car will do 3.4 miles/kWh * 41.8 = 142 miles range

Thank you.

I saw that effeciency of driving posting that discusses Battery Decoding.

The car is "smart" so it measures how effecient you use acceleration and braking.

I have a heavy foot and I need to work on regenerative breaking whenever possible to get in the higher ranges.

Right now I am averaging about 2.9 kWh/mile * 41.8kWh(80%) => 96 miles which is right about where I am at currently.

I need to improve my effeciency a little over time to get up to the 3.2 and 3.3 kWh/mile range.

Great info
