Our doc fee is $80. There's also a CA state tire excise fee we collect on Rav4 EV of $7. (on cars with spares, we collect $8.75)...

and yes, my pricing said it was $40,994 A F T E R the rebate of 7500.
no federal or state incentives or rebates are calculated into that pricing.

Someone posted about inventories increasing, and yes, our inventories of Rav4 EVs are definitely going to ebb and flow. They would have dropped to a low about 1-2 weeks ago, when the 2012's were nearly gone. They should start to rise again very shortly, as we were all waiting to see if Toyota did rebates or low rates again. Even I only had 6 total 2013's in stock/coming till yesterday, when I asked for every single 2013 my rep had left to give to me. Now, I have 24 more coming. Mostly blue and pearl white, some silver. I wanted to have a really great selection of color for everyone this month, and into July. When the 2012 stock dwindled and I was acquiring everything I could get my hands on in SoCal to offer, I mostly was left with silvers there at the end, and felt very badly for those who truly preferred blue or pearl white. Was hoping to keep that from happening again!

I'm getting a lot of text messages and emails, and most of you are identifying yourself and including your state, which I appreciate! I have better working knowledge of some states than others....

$80 doc fee is excellent.

In AZ, they tried to charge $399. I immediately negotiate it down.

I received your e-mail Dianne. I look forward to talking with you tomorrow!

To all potential EV buyers: CEC has free EVSE with free installation for California residents. Please see http://evsolutions.avinc.com/products/cec/cec_program_overview for detail.

For anyone that is interested I received the following email Thursday from Trung Tran at the Santa Monica Toyota dealership:

"I am contacting you because we have two 2012 RAV4 EVs with incentives available, one in classic silver metallic, and one in shoreline blue pearl. If either of these colors work for you, please let me know and we can make arrangements per your request, if you are still in the market for one."

I tried buying a 2012 silver rav 4 ev from this dealer. They wanted msrp. I went to toyota of Carson and paid 3000 +/- under msrp.

Exactly. They would pocket the difference in incentive from 2012 to 2013. The 2012 incentive is ~$2,500 higher, so they'll increase the dealer selling price by that much and try to convince you it's a good deal.

Trung Tran from Santa Monica was able to get me a good deal on my 2012 Rav4. I checked out the website on both SM Toyota and Carson Toyota. Then I visited the Carson dealership for a test drive since they I was originally planning on buying at Carson Toyota. However, they didn't have my color in stock. That's when I called Santa Monica did and found out they did have Pearl in stock. All pricing negotiation was done first over the phone before I made the trip out to Santa Monica. Although Santa Monica offered a price a little higher than Carson on the Pearl, I got it anyway since the financing incentive at the time was about to expire and Carson didn't have stock. That said, had I wanted to buy the silver (which both dealers had), they would have matched Carson's pricing.

Trung was good to deal with.

Dianne posted in her thread about the July Southern California promotion, so I looked at BuyAToyota.com for Northern California. It is the same. Image below is from a Santa Clara County zip code. Dianne quoted a residual of $20,916. Total of payments, plus due at signing plus residual is only $35,679. Less CA rebate of $2,500 and the net cost is $33,179. That's a better deal than I got with 0% financing and $10,000 Subvention cash in April. Obviously, the dealer top line number (selling price) was different and the lease cost of money is also low. However, I don't know if you have to pay sales tax on the residual because I've never leased a car in CA before. One more thing - the lease is "plus tax" so there is that too.

The down payment is 4X the others EV. Spark or Fiat, you only need 999 down payment.

They monthly is more than 1.5X the other EV leases. (199 is the norm).

Let see what July number will be.

People might just wait for the model X or the Outlander SUV PHEV in 2014.

You pay tax each month on the lease amount.

I think this means you are not paying tax on the Federal refund portion, unlike buying the car out right. That is a saving of over $600?

EDIT: I was wrong, it looks like you pay tax on the $15,400 lease reduction portion as well.

I guess selling 44 total cars for the previous month will make the future very interesting!!

I think the numerous problems with the car, and the seemingly not-very-serious attention to actually acknowledge, let alone fix these problems is hampering even teeny tiny sales.

The fact that it was a dead end car based on a old platform doesn't help.

Plus, some folks will hold out for Model X with Supercharging free forever, and 90 second battery swaps.

Toyota, GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR HYDROGEN CAR FOR 2015-2017. We wouldn't want to bother you with your existing CARB-Zero Emissions Vehicle compliance car.

The Outlander has a 25 Mile EV range (but does have gas mode).

The Model X is going to be around $75k (they've publicly said would be 5-10% more then the Model S)

Neither seems like a great option if you're interested in a 100+ mile range EV for $33k...

TonyWilliams

Outlander also has CHAdeMO quick charge for that short range vehicle.

Now that something I would not understand. Why do you need a QC in a plug in? You will not stop for 30 minute to charge anyway. You can use the gas mode.

IMO, PHEV shouldn't come standard with QC or include an EVSE. Make these optional.

Keep the base price low for people to buy. Or put a bigger battery in it.

Seriously, someone's going to QC a PHEV Outlander to 80% SOC, or about 28 miles? What's the point of that? In the time spent waiting for the charge, the person could have just driven home! Sounds like a pretty silly tradeoff.

It's actually sillier than that, the US EPA range is suppose to only 20-25 miles, to 80% would be only 16-20 miles.

Maybe they plan on adding a bigger battery option in the future. It would be a great PHEV SUV if they just doubled the range to 40-50 miles...

One big problem with big battery hybrids and EVs with range extenders is that all that electric + gas motor / battery / gas tank / etc. stuff takes up a lot of space. The Plug-in Prius and Ford C-Max Ehergi hybrids give up a LOT of cargo space for batteries compared to their hybrid only counterparts, and the Chevy Volt gives up space for a 5th person in the back seat. Most electric-only vehicles have much better use of space. You've got to ask yourself whether giving up all that space every day is worth it for the relatively few days per month / year you need the extended range that gas provides.

Just leased the Rav4EV. Have been lurking here for a few weeks, but once I saw the new July promotion decided to jump. And this is just 2 weeks after getting a new Volt!

Definitely enjoying the switch to EV. Got my car up here on NorCal and the inventory "appears" to be moving fast based on these deals. Ask around for quotes, some dealers are willing to go a little lower on the advertised terms. Good luck!

The only differences between a 2013 and 2012 model year is a higher window sticker price, and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) has a "D" the replaces the "C" in the 8th digit from the right. You will find the VIN through the front window, looking from the outside on the driver's side, at the bottom.

I do not expect that there will be many 2012 model year cars still available.

$7500 federal tax credit is on a purchase ONLY !!! Toyota does not pass this credit to you on a lease - CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! CHANGE FOR JULY 2013... For at least this month, they offer you the $7500 fed tax credit on a lease.

$2500 California state credit does apply to lease or purchase for California only. Your state or province may also have incentives.

************************************************************

PURCHASE:

Includes Toyota Care, Free maintenance for 2 years.

$2000 - $4000 typical dealers discounts (the dealers are getting 2% "holdback", and the salesperson gets $1000 from Toyota USA and the sales manager get $500... don't worry about hammering them on a good deal)

$7500 federal tax credit purchase ONLY !!! (NOTE: Toyota does not pass this credit to you on a lease - CAVEAT EMPTOR). You get this when you file IRS form 8936 with your federal taxes. No carryovers to the following tax year, so you need to owe the IRS at least $7500 this year.

BE VERY CAREFUL THAT THE DEALER IS NOT SELLING YOU A USED CAR!!! YOU WILL NOT QUALIFY FOR THIS CREDIT. THIS IS A KNOWN DEALER SCAM, AS THEY TAKE THE $7,500 FEDERAL TAX CREDIT FOR THEMSELVES.

$2500 California state credit for lease or purchase; Apply here. Obviously, out-of-state buyers don't get this, but instead you will get your state or local government incentives. BE VERY CAREFUL THAT THE DEALER IS NOT SELLING YOU A USED CAR!!! YOU WILL NOT QUALIFY FOR THIS CREDIT. THIS IS A KNOWN DEALER SCAM, AS THEY TAKE THE $7,500 FEDERAL TAX CREDIT FOR THEMSELVES.

Sales tax - on an "in-state" purchase, you pay the applicable tax for your county/city. For an in state lease, you pay a "use tax" on the monthly payment. For out-of-state, you pay nothing to California with a proper Bill of Laden from a shipping company. DO NOT TAKE DELIVERY IN CALIFORNIA unless you want to pay our taxes!!! You will pay applicable taxes in your out-of-state jurisdiction. There's a whole thread devoted to out-of-state purchases and leases.

NOTE TO ALL OUT OF STATE BUYERS:

I recommend having a local California current Rav4 EV owner test drive your car at the dealer before shipping to you out of state. My particular car had excessive motor noise from new, so it will be easy to identify the same situation before the car is shipped to you.

IF YOUR CAR IS DELIVERED WITHOUT FUNCTIONING INTERIOR LIGHTS:

A pin is located in the engine bay passenger side fuse box to activate the lights. Inside that fuse box, there is a white "fuse" without any number and that is the "pin". Under the fuse cover, there is a location labeled "short". Put the "pin" into the "short" slot and interior function like light, garage door opener, external door handle switch will be activated.

Typical purchase deals for NEW (not used) should look like this:

New 2012 Rav4 EV (not used)

$50,870 Retail MSRP (inc floor mats and destination, add $200 for white)

($2,000-$4,000) Dealer Discount

($9,300 - $10,000) Toyota Cash with 0.0% interest for 60 months

$80 doc fee

$36,870 - $39,570 net cost plus tax and license. This is what you will pay in the dealership without tax or shipping from California to your out of state location.

$5,000 sales tax and license plates in California. Your state may vary wildly.

Then:

($7,500) Fed Tax Credit (you will get this with your taxes with form 8936)
($2,500) CA State Rebate (you will get this when you mail in a form)

$26,870 - $29,570 Total Net Cost plus tax/license

****************************

Make sure your dealership ticked the correct box for "motive power" on the registration. If they incorrectly entered "gas", you'll need to get it corrected. In California, the DMV requests that the dealership complete Sections G & H of form "Reg 256". For section G, the sample response given was:

"Due to a clerical error on the Report of Sale, the motive power was entered as "gas (G)", when the actual motive power for this vehicle is "100% electric (E)". Please correct. No fraud intended."

The dealer then signs and dates Section H.

****************************

Have you dealer set the reverse beeper that will blast you out of the car in reverse to a single beep. I highly recommend writing this in the contract, particularly for an out of state sale. You will not like this distracting beeping in reverse. Also, I recommend setting the auto door locks to whatever setting you want prior to delivery.

The $15,400 "Lease Cash" is equivalent to Toyota taking the $7,500 tax credit for themselves and giving the buyer a $7,900 rebate. So, this is actually less of a rebate than they were giving earlier this year. The purchase "Subvention Cash" rebate was as high as $10,000 in April 2013 and the buyer could take the $7,500 tax credit.
