Highlander Hybrid a decent replacement for Rav EV?

The Sorento is a 3-row 7 seat vehicle. http://www.kia.com/us/en/vehicle/sorento/2016/comfort You're right about one thing though, the Pacifica Hybrid is the right choice for an efficient people-mover. There's simply no competition for it. It's unfortunate that Americans shun vans because...

Does the Rav4 EV turn off when left idle for too long?

That's about the energy consumption (5-10%) I experienced when doing this in the RAV4 EV while camping in the ~100 degree (overnight) heat in the Nevada desert. Leave it on Ready mode all night long - works great.

Highlander Hybrid a decent replacement for Rav EV?

The Highlander Hybrid is overpriced for the small gain in efficiency in my opinion. Fuel economy of the Kia Sorento (21/29MPG) isn't that different to the Highlander Hybrid (27/28MPG), but the car is about half the price. You could likely get a well-optioned new Sorento for less than an used...

    Drive units from model s?

Even if it worked, Tesla won't sell you the part (or any parts for that matter) so the only source would be junk yards.

Speculation: Will Tesla offer future battery pack upgrades?

Chances are pretty much 0. When the Model 3 becomes available they will use all the batteries they produce. There have already been talks of opening additional Gigafactories. The current one in Nevada is now officially referred to as Gigafactory 1 for this reason.

20kW Wireless Quick Charging for RAV4 EV by DOE/Oak Ridge

I think this type of setup would be pretty unlikely to be installed on city streets (at least where trolleybuses wouldn't already be suitable) due to a variety of issues including height restrictions, speed, and reliability (moving parts). I could only see a system like this being used at...

20kW Wireless Quick Charging for RAV4 EV by DOE/Oak Ridge

In the immediate future, you're correct. But 10-15 years down the road I could see wireless charging being more common for consumer applications. They are demonstrating this on a RAV4 EV because it's easier to do it with a small vehicle. I think the real promise is for fleet vehicles...

20kW Wireless Quick Charging for RAV4 EV by DOE/Oak Ridge

http://www.engadget.com/2016/04/03/20kw-wireless-ev-charging/ You don't often see the RAV4 EV popping up in news stories, so that's exciting by itself! No interesting details specific to the RAV4 here, but it's interesting to see someone other than Tony modifying the car's charging system for...

Any other Rav4ev owners make a Model 3 deposit?

With about a quarter million reservations ahead of you, you're probably looking at a delivery in at least three, maybe four, years. Don't forget that Tesla have never made any of their announced deadlines. I put a reservation in when they were first open online, so I'm somewhere around the...

    The Car of August

I realized that I forgot to post this when I got it, but the RAV4 EV is the official car of August for the Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association (VEVA) 2016 calendar! In true Canadian form, December features an electric Zamboni.

EVs and Solar Energy in Japan

In my experience you have to leave Tokyo to see all those things. In respect to cars/EVs, Tokyo is a very train-oriented city and space for parking is at a premium. Only 12% of Tokyo residents actually commute by private car. Source. Aside from fleet vehicles, I haven't seen too many EVs in...

Sell now or at end of lease

It wasn't me, but my guess is that another mod hit the "edit" button instead of the "quote" button - which for moderators are right next to eachother. Easy to hit, especially if you're writing on a tablet.

My RAV4EV stopped middle of the expressway - options?

Please also file a complaint with NHTSA, which you can do by following this link. With enough complaints a new investigation may be opened and could force Toyota to come up with a proper speed sensor fix. Make sure to specify in your complaint that the recall to fix this issue had been...

To keep the RAV, or not keep the RAV, that's the question?

I had a LEAF for about 3 years prior to my RAV4 and I loved it. Completely reliable, comfortable, and enjoyable to drive. The new 30kWH LEAF is the same car, but better. That said, at this point I'm holding out for the Bolt or LEAF2 in 2017 which should have more range than the RAV4 in...
