We are working on charging plans, but essentially, the best plan is to show up with enough charge to get back out. There are hundreds of charge stations in SoCal:

Slightly off topic. I have a battery-assist tricycle (Catrike Expedition with a 350 W motor on the rear wheel) If I put it in my RAV4 EV, can it also be displayed?

Although I cannot do the trip, I am very excited about the kick off.

I have made my hotel reservation for the night of August 9th so that I can arrive in Long Beach on the morning of the 10th. As the "Long Beach Arena" doesn't list the rally, I assume that the term was used generically. Do you have a spot in mind? Will there be an admission fee or a fee to display my RAV4 EV and my Catrike Expedition with its BionX motor? Would it be possible to hand out flyers from BionX (who made the motor) or Bent-Up Cycles (who assembled the bike/motor combo) to interested passersby at the meet?

As an aside, i discovered that there is no good way to look for a hotel with an EV charger. Plugshare doesn't have that as an option, and neither do any of the standard search engines (Travelocity, Expedia, Hotels.com). Does anyone have any influence with any of these companies to add "Hotels/Motels" as a criteria? In general, i would not feel comfortable leaving my car in a deserted public lot to recharge overnight, and would much rather use the hotel lot that I would be in anyway.

Very sorry to hear that the event has been cancelled. In my search for a place to stay, I found that the Marriott Renaissance Hotel at LAX has free chargers for guests (of course you have to pay $27 a night to park). Here is a list that Marriott puts out listing their hotels with chargers.

As you can see, the Renaissance is the only one in LA. The next nearest is in Dana Point (assuming we were going to Irvine). I have had luck at other hotels having the manager put out a 120V extension cord for L1 charging

, but that is hit or miss and usually requires several days advance notice

. Do you know of any other listing (ala Plugshare) that allows you to choose a stations in a hotel parking lot. I would be very leary of parking my car at a public lot and leaving it overnight in a strange town

. Of course, once you get your Chademo working, it wont take all night to charge the car
