Hi all, Been a long time since I posted here. We bought one of the 2012 Rav4 EVs back in 2013 and had it for over 7 years. Sold it in 2020 and finally got around to writing up a little post on the car and selling it. Loved the car, miss it, but now it's serving a new family...

6 Years in our Rav4 EV

Our 2012 Toyota Rav4 EV is now six years old and still going strong. We've logged 81,500 miles so far. For the first 5 years the Rav was our primary car and we drove about 14-15,000 miles a year. One year ago we got a new EV and the Rav became our secondary family car so we drive it a bit less...

    Caltrans Rav still on duty

Saw this Caltrans Rav in Sacramento this morning. I remember reading here that Caltrans bought a good number of them. I've only seen a couple of the Caltrans Ravs over the years, good to see them still in service. UC Davis Unitrans has or had a 2012, but I haven't seen it lately, instead been...

    Goodbye Pandora

Pandora will disappear from Entune in November. Have used Pandora a lot to play music for my kids. Can of course still connect my phone via Bluetooth but the onscreen menu was nice and usually worked well.

    Death Star

I drive by the death star, I mean, California Fuel Cell Partnership each morning on my way to work. Note prominent logo of participating auto manufacturers (if you can make that out, this is a cell phone pic). From Wikipedia: In January 1999, two state government agencies—California Air...

Public charging parking spot layout... needs improvement

Charging at a Target in Davis today. They have two dual ChargePoint stations in front of the store, so 4 EVs could charge at a time. First 2 hours free, $2 an hour after that, it's a great deal. I think the charging stations work for them.... I'm so much more likely to go to Target now. I got 4...

In New Jersey, 40 megawatts from telephone poles

Driving through some small towns in NJ yesterday saw many if not most telephone poles had solar panels on them. From the New Jersey Public Service Electric and Gas utility website: In July 2009, PSE&G received regulatory approval to install 40 megawatts worth of small solar energy units on...

EV owner arrested for charging car at son's public school

Unbelievable. A Leaf owner was arrested and spent about 15 hours in jail for plugging into an elementary school. Got about 5 cents worth before the cops showed up. And this was in the outskirts of Atlanta where the Leaf is king.... the November sales data showed that more Leafs were sold in...

    EV Use

Interesting data in this report. Scroll down the page and check out the pdf's on Leaf and Volt daily useage including average distance driven per day, number of charging events per day etc. It would be interesting to see how we compare. http://avt.inl.gov/evproject.shtml

    Temperature and efficiency

Temperature dropping, efficiency too. 39 this morning, below 40 the next couple of mornings (*I grew up in the Northeast so I know that 40 degrees is not really cold). I got my EV in May this year and I’m waiting to see how much the weather will impact efficiency. For comparison, here’s the...
