We survived on 110 for a couple weeks before our L2 charger was installed. It's definitely not as big of a problem as you might think.
As far as public chargers go, check out PlugShare ( http://www.plugshare.com/ ). They also have an iPhone app if you have an iPhone. You can search for public chargers in your area. Fortunately in our area there are a bunch of free charging stations. That's nice, it's like getting free gas.
