Tesla is recalling their 14-50 socket adapter: http://www.teslamotors.com/about/pr...tomers-upgraded-charging-software-and-adapter

Any idea how JESLA owners could get their adapter swapped out?

I would think a simple trip to the local Tesla service center should do it. If that's not convenient, I'd call any Tesla service center and just ask them how to get the new ones mailed to you.

Since we have purchased dozens of these things, I hope I can get some of the redesigned plugs, but there's no guarantee!

From this Bloomberg article, it says Tesla will mail out the replacement adapter.

Please get your adaptor changed per the recall:

Hi Tony,

Is the JESLA conversion only usable on a 14-50 outlet? Or would it be possible to use yet-another adaptor on the 14-50 plug for any other type of outlet? Appreciate the info!

You use the JESLA conversion like you would use the original Tesla UMC (Universal Mobile Connector). That is, the part the plugs into the wall uses interchangeable adapters from Tesla to accommodate many different plugs and voltages. I use the 14-50 connector at home but I also bought the 14-30 version. Each one is $45. Here's the link to Tesla's web store with the available adapters:
http://shop.teslamotors.com/collections/model-s-charging-adapters

Note that you remove the provided 14-50 adapter and plug in a different adapter. Each adapter identifies itself to the UMC and dictates the appropriate voltage given the outlet type. 40 amps for 14-50, etc. You would NOT want to make an adapter to go from the 14-50 to something else because the Jesla/Tesla UMC would still be trying to pull 40 amps which might well be too much for the outlet you're trying to force fit it into. Just buy and use the appropriate adapter (NEMA 14-50 vs. NEMA 6-50 vs. NEMA 10-30, etc).

Yes, it works with plugs other than NEMA 14-50.

When you attach the respective Tesla $45 plug, JESLAtm will automatically provide the following amperage:

............................................VOLTS / AMPS.......kW
NEMA 5-15 .......Standard Outlet.. 120 V / 12 A...... 1.4 kW
NEMA 5-20 ...... Motel air conditioner 120/16A....... 1.9 kW
NEMA 10-30......Older Dryers...... 240 V / 24 A...... 5.8 kW
NEMA 14-30......Newer Dryers..... 240 V / 24 A...... 5.8 kW
NEMA 6-50 .......Welding Equip.... 240 V / 40 A...... 9.6 kW
NEMA 14-50......RVs and Camps... 240 V / 40 A...... 9.6 kW

Hi Tony,

I am considering the Volt as well, but I like the Jesla portability and possibility to charge faster.

Would the Jesla work with Volt? Is there any benefit/risks? Or the Jesla is more suited to Rav4 EV and Tesla?

Thanks
Daniel

The Jesla should work with any J1772-compatible EV or PHEV, Volt included. It's capable of more power than you could use with a Volt (or any other non Tesla/Rav EV currently out there), so it's just a question of whether the additional expense vs getting a lower-power EVSE is worth it to you.

Just got mine the other day. Great product. I am so pleased that I decided to purchase. Now I can take it with me or just leave it plugged in. Very nice build quality. Well worth the price.

We restock constantly. Tesla is currently out-of-stock on the UMC's. This is "normal".
Can I paypal you now and wait for shipping?
