FYI - there are currently 14 RAV4 EV's going to auction this week. Sold by Toyota Financial. Prices are averaging about $19K.

Expect to see them pop up at your local dealership soon - with added markup.

I'd also add that some folks are little crazy here with their pricing. As much as I like the car and almost bought one, there are a lot of options out there right now (new i3 and e_golf with longer range as well as X5 40e). I'm seeing some people ask $500 per month of the next X months which is crazy IMO. Keep in mind anyone buying used would absolutely need to buy an extended service contract for $1800.

There are great incentives on new BMW X5 40e's right now (up to $6500). Yeah, I know, 16 miles of range but it works for people that have a short commute and can charge at work and home and need a 4wd for other times. Monthly leases are as low as $529 (36/10).

Thank you for your post. I lease two Tesla Model S in my family (for myself and mother) and have two model 3 reserved. I wanted a rav4 ev lease to cover around a year until I get my first model 3. I was considering a normal SUV like a Q5/Cayenne/RX but I put in place extended charging infrastructure with a lot of capacity. I thought the Rav4 could be a good deal, but it makes no sense at all.

Buying in cash, it will basically depreciate massively once better battery tech becomes more prevalent in a year.

I can basically get a Model X for some of the offers I have received. $500+tax a month + $4k lease takeover for 10 months? Are you crazy?

The Rav4 EV uses the same basic battery cells construction as all TESLA cars... using your rational, I wouldn't buy a Model X, either. Or any Tesla car, ever.

I'm not sure what you intended to pay, but $500 for any SUV isn't bad. You don't have to worry about depreciation... IT'S A LEASE !!! It has a fixed depreciation at the end of the lease term called a "residual".

There have been plenty of offers of "take over lease" with unlimited miles, and maybe $1000. You can buy the car at the end for $18k - $20k.

Hi! Parting out with our 2014 White Rav4EV with 23,XXX miles for $23,000 (leased in November 2014) with unlimited miles, so of course still eligible for the extended warranty. Car is in San Francisco.
Preferably a straight sale, rather than a take over of the lease. Always serviced at Magnussen in Palo Alto, it has been trouble free. Heater core unit was replaced on the very first month of the lease if I remember well.
Sold with the Nissan Leaf 220V/30A cord bought from EVSE Upgrade in Berkeley ($630), 3 adapters (for 220 plugs from dryer or welder) and also got the OEM Toyota cord (110V) upgraded to higher amp ($230) by EVSE Upgrade.
Mostly driven from SF to SC twice a week, extended charges done on 220 or 110 in SC (some sessions at J1772). Tires have less than 50% left, so you will soon have the choice to get the exact tires you want.
Includes a 2" hitch for a bicycle rack ($130 but not wired for towing), front WeatherTech molded plastic floor mats ($80) and heavy duty seat covers ($200). CA carpool stickers installed of courser. Body has 3 small scratches on bumpers from city parking...

That's why people are still looking because they can't buy from those prices listed. I like it when they post list and prices, then why not just buy it instead of bashing people for what they are asking for their car?

Call a car broker. They have access to auctions and can buy these cars for you for their minimal fees.

My 2014 Rav4 EV lease is coming to an end soon and I already got another car. I was just going to return it but since I know some people are really enthusiastic about this car I thought I'd ask if anyone wants to take it over from me?

Currently has 35,200 miles on it.

Due back in May but I'll probably return it sooner since I don't want to go over 36k.
The only problem I've had with it was right after I got it my heater went out so I had Toyota replace it. (From what I read online it's a very common problem)
All recalls done.
Only did extended charging once.

I did some browsing on the CarFax reports, in cases where they're offered free.

Interesting points:
* there were a number of them that mention "Oil & Filter" changes (some of them many times)
* I didn't see any of them mention heater or drive unit changes.

Carfax also does not indicate what Recall work has been completed on a given vehicle, only if it has any outstanding that need to be done.

Why not pre-negotiate with a dealer and set a mileage, condition and price target so they can go get one for you. If it's a Toyota dealer you can also set the total price with a 5yr/60k extended warranty into the deal. If they have a known customer and can turn over the car quickly, they don't have to make as much on the transaction to cover carrying costs.
