Last year I was browsing the forum to learn about my new (to me) RAV4 EV!

I saw something about a fan issue that should be mediated or else it causes serious problems later.

My RAV4 EV had 45K and now has 155K miles on it and we have done no maintenance whatsoever, except changing the battery yesterday.

The blue stuff looks low too.

My search skills haven't helped me to find the maintenance I should be doing.

Sorry for my ADHD and Autism. I just need someone to kind of get with me about what to look out for or what things to search to get the jobs done.

Thank you!

No. 1: "Coolant Delete". I would consider this modification a "must do" for any RAV4 EV, MB B250e, and early Model S. Failure to address this often dooms the vehicle to Salvage status at this point. Can be accomplished for under $200 if DIY, or as much as $1500 if you pay someone expensive to do it for you.

Other common problems with our cars that don't necessarily require preventative maintenance include:

  • Onboard Charger's (OBC) AC input fuse(s) failing
  • OBC failing in another way
  • One of the four electric coolant pumps failing
  • The HV Traction Battery's contactors failing
  • The HV Traction Battery Dehumidfier pump wearing out
  • Cabin Heater failure (generally also requires repair -- fuse replacement -- in the DC-DC Converter at the same time, or replacement of the entire unit)

Less common:
  • Navigation/head unit failure
  • LDU internal PCB failure -- cracked?
There are fairly detailed threads for every one of the above issues, if you're interested.

Either invest in a high-quality 12v battery or make a plan to replace it on a 3-year cycle.

Change the key FOB battery before it gives you trouble. It's odd: CR1632, not stocked everywhere, not the same as several other common Toyotas.
