The smallest Quick 240V from two 120V outlets?

Many of us are aware of the utility of using two out of phase 120V outlets to make a quick 240V outlet. Some brave souls on the nissanleaf forum have even done this with a Y connector but most have gone with the commercial Quick220 or a homebrewed Easy240V with the appropriate relays for safety...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Why don't you post the schematic here - in case someone wants to try in the future? 4EVEREV, a metal box is a good thought; I like this case because it has a clear hinged lid that allows you to open the case up easily if venting is needed but you can read the display with the box closed.

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Thanks Tony and Jason for added information about the Leviton ITT 30A cable operation at 40A; maybe, I'll put it back until I order Tony's cable since the 75A cable is heavy. The relay has been fine for the last 3 months running at 38A. I did run it at 40A for a week but the relay heated up...

RAV4 Dislikes LEAF EVSE with EVSEUpgrade Rev 2

I am not certain what main function is being defeated. Incidentally, the TIA from NEC currently says 6 feet not 2 feet: http://www.nfpa.org/Assets/files/AboutTheCodes/70/TIA70-11-2.pdf. Regulations are meant to ensure safety and so long as modifications by Tony and others who have a sound...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I used the Magnecraft W199X-7 DPST-NO, 12VDC coil, 40A. It's now part of Schneider Electric. There are a couple of other options including one by Dayton that I bought but have yet to try. You can get it for $20-$50. Here's an example from Newark...

Random or not so random pairings?

I was at home depot and when I returned to the car, I found this blue roadster parked next to me: Are there other pairings folks want to share?

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Having been driving EVs for a little while now, I find a portable EVSE quite useful so I took the Tesla Model S UMC and replaced the end with a J1772 plug. This was first described on the mynissanleaf.com forum and later done by others on this forum. The converted UMC was a slick setup but I...

$17,500 off by 1 Dec 2014, Production Ended August 2014

Daniel, While I'm not bruin nut, I did have the 2011 LEAF and now have the Volt and RAV4EV so I'll chime in. Of the EVs that I've had, I would say that the Volt is the most versatile. I found the LEAF to be most exciting, in part because it was the first on the market; the Achilles heel for it...

    Check EV System warning message

I got my car back yesterday (1/8/14) too! The gateway ECU came faster than the initial estimate of mid February but slower than the expectation of last week of December which was what the dealer told me. The car was in the shop for 3 weeks this time.

Starlight, The number is (800) 331-4331. All the best for a quick resolution!

    Check EV System warning message

Wouldn't that be interesting :-P but I doubt it because I heard from the dealership just before Christmas that it wasn't there yet and have not heard anything more since! I suspect that despite assurances, I'll likely end up having to wait it out too. I suggest that you call the 800 number and...

    Check EV System warning message

With Toyota National's involvement, things may be moving! I got a ring from the dealership that they expect to have to part in by next week instead of waiting until Mid February.

    Check EV System warning message

Hopefully, it's something more readily fixable than that cos I just heard today that the gateway ECU is on back order and not likely available until mid February. Toyota National is involved but they may not be able to do much about the situation.

    Check EV System warning message

I am told that the problem this time is a bad gateway ECU. The wait time is about a month according to the tech!

    Check EV System warning message

My car had the check EV system again this morning after I got to work. This time - I was able to drive it to the dealership and so I hope that it's the standard check EV system and not the high temp/low temp problem that required traction battery replacement as in...

Irvine Rav4 EV Mini Meet 09-14-2013

My car just returned from the shop and had its traction battery replaced! It looks like there isn't much traction ;-) for meeting up this weekend. Let's do it another time.

    Check EV System warning message

I had a variation on the check EV system that I haven't seen reported until now. While driving, this came on: High Battery Temp (Battery Cooling Now) and Low Battery Temp (Battery Warming Now) Check EV System. The solution was replacement of the traction battery. See details here...

    Traction Battery Replaced Thread

update. I got my car back today! It took the mechanic a very short time to replace it. The real problem for him is how to discharge the old battery so that it can be sent back to Tesla. Apparently, the battery ECU is preventing discharge. Here's a photo of the old battery in the container...

    Traction Battery Replaced Thread

I sure hope it doesn't get to that cos I think it's a great car! I want it back so I can drive it. I only had it for just over 2 months when this happened.

    Traction Battery Replaced Thread

Update. The replacement battery arrived. The EV mechanic at Mossy Toyota replaced the battery with help from Tesla engineers over the phone. So, there was no engineers onsite as suggested previously. Interestingly, Mossy Toyota didn't have the right lift to lift the car up for battery...
