    Wanted: Touch screen

The only notable benefit of the factory nav unit is the ability to toggle on/off the extended charge function. At this point, nearly all RAV4 EV battery packs have lost enough capacity that there is little if any range improvement from extended charge. Other forum members have successfully...

    Wanted: Touch screen

Are you wanting the entire navigation unit assembly, or just the touchscreen? If the latter, I should have one from an otherwise bricked head unit. Feel free to DM.

    RAV4 prime?

Agreed, Al. The recent influx of new members that post irrelevant questions and offer generic advice to each other seems incredibly suspect. Hopefully the forum admin is keeping an eye on this...

Pictures from my onboard charger fuse replacement

What are you referring to as "the transmission/engine override key"? This description makes no sense, particularly for an EV. There is an electrically actuated parking pawl on the motor assembly; if it is not disengaging, the vehicle will not roll in neutral, nor will you be able to drive...

    Propulsion unit changed

Search this forum for contactor replacement, you'll find multiple posts. The short answer is: contactor failure is becoming more prevalent on these vehicles. It is unrelated to your drive unit replacement, just coincidental timing. While the contactors themselves are fairly inexpensive, the...

Advice - Rav4EV in Extended Warranty but part not available

These cars are unicorns: parts are going to continue to get harder to source. Manufacturers are generally required to offer replacement parts for 10 years, which means we've now hit the period where Tesla and Toyota are no longer obligated to offer any replacement parts. Something to keep in...

Thinking about buying a RAV 4 EV

The vehicle mileage appears correct/accurate; see the service history for this VIN below. However if the photos shown above are current, it is *extremely suspect* that the vehicle has only been driven a total of 16 miles in the last 13 months.

Charging stopped due to system malfunction

The plastic cover pulls straight out; there's a gasket around the perimeter to make it weather-resistant that also means a little force is required to remove it. Note that there is an interlock pin molded into the clear cover (about a third of the way up from the bottom). Unless you insert...

    Bought 2 RAV4 EVs

While these vehicles are unique and even fun, being 10+ years old with essentially zero Toyota or Tesla support means that you're taking a notable gamble buying one, and the parts that fail are becoming harder to source. As quickly as newer EVs seem to depreciate, I would argue that unless...

    Problematic RAV4EV without Tesla's codes

That is very unusual. Do you have the ability to record a CAN log file (ASCII text preferred) from the Tesla port, and either post or send via DM?

OK to drive with BMS_f038 code?

Regarding the locking tab on the blue BMS connector: I recall that I used a small flat-blade screwdriver to push up on the outer end of the locking mechanism, which should then pivot the inner locking claw down. I may have even twisted the screwdriver against the fixed piece that covers the tab...

    Car now won’t charge

Since you started a new thread for diagnostics, I'll leave my comments here: What state of charge is shown on the instrument cluster (eg how many bars on the gauge)? Did anything change on the car for the few months it sat, where it went from charging correctly to not charging/not showing...

    bad battery repair

Patrick's RAV has the following error codes shown in TPD: BMS_f003 HV battery internal fault BMS_f097 HV battery cell under voltage condition detected In addition, there are multiple bits set in the raw CAN data that correspond to Model S error codes: BMS_w003_HW_Module_Alarm...

    For Sale: 2012 RAV4 EV

Does the car go into READY mode? If it does, your contactors are fine. Not charging is a separate issue, and likely a failure of one of the internal fuses. The Tesla diagnostics software is now available for free...

12V battery recharged, but RAV4 dead (won't even unlock door with remote key) - ???

The progress bar you saw on the nav unit is normal for boot-up from the internal HDD following loss of 12V power; the car did not download a new OS.

    Rav4 EV Not Charging Again

I concur with Al's assessment. Does QC Charge offer any warranty on their work, since you mention the OBC was changed last year? I'm curious: are you using different software to produce your 'battery tab' info? Are you telnetting into the gateway perhaps?

    bad battery repair

Generally I use LabView programs I've written to analyze/reverse engineer CAN data. SavvyCAN is a good open source program, but I haven't spent enough time to learn how to use it efficiently. For decoding brick voltages, I created code in Excel to convert the 14 bit words into real values, and...

    bad battery repair

I haven't used SMT before. Since I do a lot of Arduino-based tinkering, I simply built a small logger than writes CAN to an SD card as ASCII text, which I can then evaluate in different programs I've written.

    bad battery repair

Yes, this data was collected from the blue Tesla diagnostic port. I built a small CAN logger that captures data to an SD card, which I can then import into Excel to decode cell voltages.

    bad battery repair

See attached text file of decoded brick voltages, as well as raw CAN data if you'd like to confirm my math :) Unfortunately this forum does not allow spreadsheet file attachments...
