RavCharge, a solution to charge timer and entune woes

That's pretty cool! Does this work with an extended charge as well or only normal charge?

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Awesome!! Thank you so much! I'll let you know when everything arrives and we can set up a time that works for you. Also good to know re Chris. If I recall he lives up in Lancaster so shouldn't be too much time to ship at least.

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I ordered everything on the 12th and so far have received the shipments from Amazon and Digikey. The AliExpress relay is stateside now and will likely show up tomorrow. Then I'll just be waiting on the J1772 cable from QCPower and the shipment from OpenEVSE (controller, LCD, button, and...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Okay, finals are over so I'm back to building my OpenEVSE. It's now my highest priority project since we have the BC2BC rally coming up in August and before that we are planning to make a trip to Milford, UT and would need the OpenEVSE to do it in the RAV. Here's my updated parts list. After...

    Blinking Reverse Indicator

My 2007 Prius would blink the reverse indicator the same way as the RAV. Sounds like she could be mis-remembering...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Hey everyone, It's finals week for me so I haven't had a chance to update my parts list yet, but I just wanted to thank you guys for all the help so far! This is my post-finals project so I'll be diving into it properly next week. :D

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

That makes sense. I will use a 50A breaker instead then. I do intend to use this as a portable unit and not a fixed EVSE. The only time it will operate in a fixed form will be off a 20A circuit so I'll dial it down accordingly. Should I be looking for a relay like this...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I'm about to embark on this 40A OpenEVSE adventure as well. Here's my parts list so far - is there any glaring omission here? Also, I had trouble finding 40A/250V fuses and fuseholders. Will the ones I've specced here work? OpenEVSE Plus v2 Combo with LCD (Quick KIT) OpenEVSE $169.00 x1...

    iPhone messaging not working

I played around with this yesterday and discovered that I must have hit the "no" button when it asked if I wanted to allow the car to access my messages when I first set it up. I deleted the phone from the car's Bluetooth list and re-linked it which sorted it out and now I can get messages on...

    iPhone messaging not working

Is there a similar setting for Android phones? This feature works with my Nexus 5 in the Focus without any additional setup but I've never had it working in the RAV4.

Another one gets the crush. (BMW ActiveE)

It wouldn't be hard at all for BMW to re-lease those cars. I know several people, myself included, who would be interested in a 2-year old ActiveE for a reasonable lease deal. BMW has a very robust certified pre-owned program so it would not be hard for them to administer such a thing...

Cheapest RAV4 EV Toyota Extended Warranty

Toyota of Greenfield is great to deal with. When I bought my Prius in 2007 I purchased my extended warranty through them. Really smooth purchase, no complaints.

Why did Toyota build Rav4 EV? Why hydrogen after 2014 ?

I just hope Tesla has seen the way Toyota treats the RAV4 EV customers and decides to offer service and maintenance at Tesla centers for a fee to RAV4 EV owners. I'd happily pay Tesla for some sort of service agreement or even pay-per-use in order to get away from Toyota's poor support...

Another one gets the crush. (BMW ActiveE)

Bad deja vu this morning. This photo was posted on the Tesla club forums of crushed BMW ActiveEs being transported. I think it's important that people are aware that this has happened. I'd like to give BMW the benefit of the doubt here and hopefully these were just a few ActiveEs that were...

    good move / bad move?

Focus Electric. It's a fantastic car. Best fit and finish of any EV available right now in my opinion. We've had no problems with ours. Range will be much lower than the Coda obviously, but the Focus is a better all around car and safer as well. If you can make the range work - I'd say it's...

    good move / bad move?

I've driven a Coda once in 2012 at an EV show. The car definitely feels cheaply constructed and the biggest thing that stuck out to me was the poor braking system. Very poor brake feel and braking response was not consistent throughout my test drive. Other than that, for that price I'd say go...

    Strange Charging Notification from Entune

I have received charging notifications but have been unable to successfully activate remote climate over the past two days either via the Entune app or RavCharge. It's been killing me with this heat we're having!

    External Temperature Reading Inaccurate

Good question, but I would imagine that it doesn't. The TMS would use temperature sensors within the battery pack itself rather than ambient temperature data. This is how it works in the LEAF - although there is no TMS on that car but there are multiple temperature sensors in the battery...

Why did Toyota build Rav4 EV? Why hydrogen after 2014 ?

You're correct and we do actually all have closed-ended leases. Open-ended leases are more similar to financing and don't usually have a set lease-end date. When referring to the original generation of EVs with "closed-end" leases I think everyone means that they were leases with no purchase...

    External Temperature Reading Inaccurate

If the behavior continues, I'd say you've got a bad temperature sensor. My RAV was parked next to my college weather station yesterday and read 100°F at about 4PM. The weather station was reporting a little over 98°F. Whenever I've compared the RAV to the weather station output, the results...
