Yes, we often tell new students "when asked what is it that makes aircraft fly, remember the correct answer is money, not lift".

    Extension Cord

No... the openEVSE trips... not the supplied Panasonic EVSE. The Chris Howell designed openEVSE board has a very sensitive GFCI circuit and can trip when used with a GFCI protected circuit. That's why Mitch added the disabling switch.

    Extension Cord

Trip. Apparently it is very sensitive.

But as I understand, sometimes there are issues when you plug a GFCI into a GFCI... causes one to trip. That's why Mitch Wolrich over on MNL modified Chris Howell's openEVSE (when building a portable unit) with a switch to bypass the built-in GFCI circuit when plugging into a GFCI protected...

That was the $ figure of the game show. I was just 2 when it came on! :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_$64,000_Question

    Extension Cord

I have used mine with a 12 gauge 20' without any issues. The 120V supplied evse seems to draw a steady 11 amps. Don't use all the time though. I would guess voltage drop would be an issue as well as heating of plugs/contacts due to possible corrosion with older cords assemblies. I'm sure...

    Check EV System warning message

Don't think so. They also did a firmware update but that was tried last week before the Tesla visit yesterday. Like was mentioned earlier, it's too bad that some known good parts can't be made available for diagnostic use before the Tesla guy walks thru the door with parts under his arm. Hey...

    Check EV System warning message

Well... just picked up the car and everything is working and running as it should. The problem listed is the gateway ECU needed replacement. This is consistent with what the Toyota EV tech that has been working on it since coming in on the flatbed. He has said all along that the Toyota ECU is...

    Check EV System warning message

Well... got a call late yesterday from the service advisor and my car is ready! Two weeks in the shop and 1 day with Tesla engineers (yesterday) and it's supposedly fixed. Can't wait to get it and see what the repair order says as to what the problem was. There's gotta be a better way...

Rav4 EV as a standby power source

I think any way to tie into the Tesla battery/inverter would instantly void warranty... I can't see any way to do what you are talking about. I think it's closer to 400VDC. This can kill and as Tony said before and HURT while you are being killed. Spend $1000 and get a 8kw backup generator...

    Entune and Pandora/iHeartRadio No Sound

I have encountered the same. Maybe even talked to the same person... :)

    Entune and Pandora/iHeartRadio No Sound

I have also found that when listening to Pandora/iHeart Radio thru Entune and I shut everything (the car) off... the next time I get in the car and don't have Entune launched on the iPhone the audio reverts to the iTunes music library on the phone. I am then having to fumble with my phone to...

    My Complaint Rant

I think that qualifies for the lemon law... not sure if it's 30 days total for repairs or if they have to be the same repair issue.

    Garage Door Opening Failure

Does your garage door receiver have a learn button on it? Mine is quite old as well yet it has a learn button on the receiver board. You might have to remove the cover. After you link the homelink transmitter in the car and it blinks you need to quickly push the learn button and then the...

What is YOUR experience with buying & first few days?

The loaner car I am driving while my Rav is in the shop is a 2013 Avalon Hybrid. The thing has radio KNOBS! 2 of them... one for volume and one for tuning! I guess the car is targeted to the older crowd that isn't as tech savvy... as my friends and girlfriend say "like me" :o

What is YOUR experience with buying & first few days?

I found the steering wheel mute by accident a while back... push and hold the mode button and the audio will mute. Push and hold again to bring the volume back on.
