    Multiple onboard chargers

Yes, that sounds like a good charging algorithm. I have read somewhere that it takes as much time to go from 80%SOC to 100% as it does to go from 20%SOC to 80%, because of the way that current tapers off during the charging cycle. There is a whole group of characters on...

    Multiple onboard chargers

Yes, given the amperage limitations of the J1772 that is the only way to get that many Amps into the car. I actually meant parallel in the context of the entire system. Both the input and output are parallel in the big picture and the chargers have to be isolated internally to safely operate in...

    Multiple onboard chargers

That is a good point about the BMS. I suspect the existing BMS (TMS) communicates and probably modulates the existing charger depending on State of Charge and temperature. I think he was planning on using two J1772 plugs in parallel so each one would carry less than 80amps.

    Multiple onboard chargers

I have heard they are great chargers. Are those the ones that are discontinued? Are you getting a good deal on them? There are some 12.5 Amp 3.3kW ones out on the street from the Azure Dynamics liquidation. Jack Rickard has them on the EVTV store for $2,295 each. I am probably not interested in...

    Minimizing Battery Capacity Losses

The only way I know is to lift the hood and see the fluid moving in the reservoir as mentioned in another thread.

Convince me to buy this car over a LEAF

To add TMS at this point would be admitting their mistake. That may be hard to do for them, unless some cars catch on fire and they are forced to recall them. In this regard, as others have said, Tesla is a few years ahead of them with regard to battery technology alone.

    Dealer training

Mine does the same thing. I have been wondering if I have been doing it accidentally or if it is coming on by itself. When it did that in the winter I was thinking, what a nice feature that was, now I know better. LOL

    Fan noise with car off

Was it plugged into the EVSE or had it been charging overnight?

    Microcontroller Logger

Tony was working on something that would read the signals from one of the OBD ports. There is a similar device (Gidometer) that has been developed for the Nissan Leaf. I have a device which allows me to see amphours, realtime amps and volts for my VW conversion. The problem is it needs to hook...

    Tesla model S UMC with J1772 & JESLA(tm) conversion

So if I read that correctly there are only two choices for 240v charging, 40Amp and 24Amp using the Tesla UMC.

    DC "level 3" charging Mod

I regularly travel the LA freeways and have had a number of 120 mile journeys on extended charge. I have had two instances of "Check EV System" but I have always been able to drive the car to the dealer and one time I drove it for several days that way before going to the dealer. I love the...

Tom Hanks drives a Rav4 EV

Since then, he acquired a Scion XB which was converted by AC Propulsion. Here is the Youtube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLBxKNR7eFY

    A couple of charging questions

You can't adjust the amps from the car, but several EVSEs that I know about are adjustable. Both the VersiCharge and the Model S UMC can signal the car to pull less amps via the J1772 signal. There are also some other EVSEs that can signal for different amps but I don't recall the names.

    Solar Panel Options (Colorado)

Personally I would not trust the advice of a public utility about whether or not I should install solar. The returns on investment to the consumer are pretty good these days and in many jurisdictions the incentives are huge. As an example of bad advice from a public utility, I had to jump...

EVSE J1772 Compatibility Thread for RAV4 EV

Like its name implies, this charger is very versatile. It has an adjustable amperage setting, and in one configuration it slips onto a bracket so it could also be used as a portable unit. It has up to an 8 hour delay feature. I also has some dry contacts that can be used to control the...

    Tesla model S UMC with J1772 & JESLA(tm) conversion

Thanks, that clarifies it for me.

So that must mean it was plugged in to the charging cable to be making that noise.

    Weird braking sound?

It is the sound of the vacuum pump. I am not very good at putting sounds to words but I identified it by putting my foot on the brake. I only hear it when the front window is rolled down. It was the same sound on the Prius Plug In.

    Tesla model S UMC with J1772 & JESLA(tm) conversion

I have seen various prices for the Tesla UMC up to $1500 on the Tesla store. One of the great features is the ability to supply various Kwhr rates. That versatility and its small size make it a good option. Is there a trick to finding one cheaper than on the Tesla store?

    Minimizing Battery Capacity Losses

I bought one cell and was going to run it through a simple charge discharge cycle on a PowerLab that I have. Unfortunately my source for the cell wasn't very reliable and I got one that barely had 2amphrs of capacity. I have subsequently read some battery threads on the Tesla Motors Club Forum...
