Assume normal.
I and others hear the charging noises and had the same concerns. After visiting the dealers and comparing notes in this forum, it has been assumed to be "normal" for this vehicle to have pulsing noises at varying frequencies (even no noise) during charging. My previous Focus...
Irvine Toyota called me yesterday afternoon and announced my car was ready for pickup. Code found after reviewing the "freeze frame" data was U1146 "Lost communication with electric propulsion control system gateway." Contact with Toyota Engineering had revealed an ECU update was available...
Quick update: We drove the car to Irvine Toyota a few hours later and the "Check EV System" message was no longer present at start up. The technicians reviewed the car Saturday and found a code they didn't understand and thus sent a "snapshot" (aka system log file of recent usage information)...
So my wife just called and we had our first "Check EV System" today at ~1750 miles. She was able to restart and make it home, but then restarted at home with same error. I was hoping she would say it didn't appear again.... :( I guess we will be taking it to AutoNation Toyota Irvine today...
@Damchi
Thanks for the update. Seems they reached the same conclusion: No error codes and a possible explanation about the moisture or humidity pump means all is normal. I've only seen 2-3 other reports on this forum that indicate a similar sound is heard when charging, so I'm still concerned...
I left the car with the dealer last Tuesday and it was returned that evening. They found no fault codes. The tech also noted that my Schneider charger is not 100 percent Toyota approved ("only basic testing has been done") which I take to mean it hasn't been extensively tested and proven by...
I normally charge the Tesla at midnight but decided to test to see if I could hear anything like the pulsing sound I get with the RAV, but it was very quiet during charging.
@tgreene
Thanks for listening to the video. I agree it seems likely to be a pump of some kind probably conditioning the...
I visited the dealer this morning and tried L2 charging in the service bay with the tech. We were unable to hear the sound after a couple of brief attempts. The tech didn't seem to know what to expect and the service bay is quite noisy so this noise would likely go unnoticed. Tech will call...
The tapping returned and I now would call it intermittent. When it returned, it starts slowly and then increases to 2-4 times per second. I stopped and restarted charging. At first just buzzing then the tapping returned. I can tell its modulating the charge current as well so it might be a relay...
Hello to everyone! This is my first post and a quick thanks for all the great information I found here while doing my research. DW and I leased the R4EV last night and are now fully electric!
I'm charging my R4EV for the first time this morning and using L2. I heard the expected buzzing but...
