ECU cuts power during low battery situation

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to cut really close with the range on my RAV4. As I was approaching my exit with about 6 miles to go. I noticed there was a noticeable drop in power in both normal and sport mode. I assume it is done to ensure you don't burn up too much energy powering the engine when you are on fumes? Anyone noticed that before?

Yes, it reduces maximum power to protect the cells. Normal for all modern EVs.
