I'm about to take delivery of #2117, with ~26K on the odometer. It just fell out of extended warranty range. Dealer had it serviced at Naperville, IL Toyota. Previous owner said either Tesla up near the IL/WI border (I-90/94), or the Naperville dealer will service the car. I'm bringing it back to WI. Spoke with Naperville dealer; had no problem doing a service check, and then issuing an extended used platinum warranty apparently. No price yet though. Have to schedule this for later.

I spoke to Dianne today at Carson Toyota (happened to help my brother purchase a Prius Prime Plus this past year, back to WI). Dianne told me they can't issue the extended used platinum care warranty for the Rav4 EV. Same deal for the other two recommended gentlemen in MA, and that other CA dealer, from the board posts.

1. Who else can I contact about getting that warranty outside of CA? Preferably in the midwest!

This unit is a rare unicorn that actually has the Jdemo unit installed outside of CA. Haven't had the chance to test it yet. Have multiple options near my house (including my employer). I went through the exhaustive list of checking the car completely over, including putting it up on a lift to check the undercarriage. Only problem I found was that the OEM tires were shot. No drivetrain problems from test drive, up to 70 mph. Charging cable and charging has no issues, all accessories unused and present in the trunk panels. All recalls were performed. Title is clean. Comes with complete weathertech package, and aftermarket tow kit. Heater works great, though not sure what model was under the hood. It's in immaculate condition; seems to have just been sitting unused in someone's climate controlled garage, aside from some standard surface rust on the brakes/shocks.

I need to replace the tires; from what I've read here, people either really like the Bridgestone Ecopia's, or hate them. There are 4 iterations of them now, not sure which model to buy, if I do.

I own two Chevrolet Volt's (2012, 2013) where the Ecopia's were just pieces of **** (also take R17's). Replaced with Pirelli Cinturnato P7 Plus (eco), and now run like a dream.

2. Are there Pirelli's like this for the Rav4 EV? What are owners top 3 choices for replacement tires, that fall as being best for maintaining the original range as much as possible?

3. Is there anything else I should know about the vehicle that I haven't already covered? (Yes, I understand the risks associated with even thinking about buying one of these.)

Hi SpicyUnagi,

Congratulations on your purchase. It's nice to see others like myself take the plunge into owing a RAV-EV way out of California.

On your warranty question, call Tony Dietrich over at Toyota of Greenfield (Greenfield, MA) 413-772-0231. Not sure what he can offer as your car is over 36 months but he has the best prices around. He was great to deal with.

I am no expert on the tires, other than the original tires are garbage. Perhaps others can help in this area.

One thing you want to check is if it has the original 12 volt battery still installed. The original is a 55D23L Group 35 with a cold cranking of 356 amps and reserve capacity of 99 minutes. If you have this battery installed, as per Tony's instructions, change it out as soon as you can. Do not wait or serious problems will most likely happen. As the battery dies the low voltage screws things up. Read through "ALL POSTS - 12-volt battery replacement" thread. Lots of details in there.

You are going to love the RAV-EV. Put it into sport mode at the red light and blast those gas cars away. :)

Best wishes.

Regarding tires, I have the discontinued Michelin Defenders and I think they're very good. Not the Defender T+H, not the Defender LTX M/S, just plain Defender. Like I said, they appear to be discontinued.

If I had to buy tires today, in Northern California, I would probably buy the Michelin Premier LTX. Rainy places, I would probably buy the Scorpion Verde All Season Plus. LRR snow tires are also available - Michelin Latitude X-Ice.

If you want to buy based on rolling resistance, the problem is that there is no relative rating. It's just a Yes/No deal.

Warranty, if you are buying it from a used car dealer you can get a used car toyota warranty for $2999. I have been told that anyone can buy the used car warranty at any point but when I tried I was denied. So IDK

Here is what I have copied and saved from previous peoples comments about tires. I am actually having Continental True Contact tires installed right now. Hopefully they are good.

Here are the low rolling resistance tires that fit our rav. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Tire...kipOver=true&minSpeedRating=S&minLoadRating=S
"That when I replaced mine.. Went with Goodyear Assurance FuelMax as I happily used them on my Prius and they were on sale..

Grant Rummel Bridgestones new ecopias are supposedly one of the lowest rolling resistance tires out. Claim gauranteed mpg improvement on standard ecobox vehicles. Maybe a tire worth looking into for the rav ev.
Aleksey Semenyuta I had them on my Leaf, first set was gone within 13k miles, second lasted over 20k miles...

Michael Iimura I have the discontinued Michelin Defender and feel they are very good. It looks like Tire Rack still has a couple on closeout. I heard that others were not happy with the Defender T+H and a forum user said they took a rather large range hit on the Defender LTX M/S, which is a Highway All Season, a type that I would avoid.

I guess my top picks if I had to pick today would be the Michelin Premier LTX, Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus, Continental CrossContact LX20, Yokohama Geolandar G055, and the Crossover/SUV Ecopias, in no particular order.

I'm actually really surprised at the specs of the Geolandar G055 compared to the garbage factory Geolandars."

I own a 2012 and a 2014 in NY. My 2014 has Jdemo too. Local dealer has been fine for service.

If you're buying it used from a Toyota dealer, you can buy the Toyota used car warranty. If from some other dealer, there's no telling.

I believe Troy told me you have to be a resident from MA or CT to buy extended warranty from him. I guess you just have to have a dealer to sell you in IL or have a family member in MA

You can also rent a mailbox online and buy and send the extended warranty theree w detrich. I used anytime mail box i believe.

I spoke with Troy many times over the past couple months. He cannot sell warranties for this car anymore. He told me that even the youngest RAV4 is too old for an extended warranty. I live in New York and I purchased my warranty from him just before the car turned 36,000 miles.

I ran many different VINs past him and tried all angles. He said it’s not him, it’s Toyota. They will not offer a warranty once a gets to a certain age and I guess we are past that point.

With that said, some how some people on here have been able to purchase a used car Toyota warranty on vehicles that they already own. That wasn’t an option for me but I guess others were able to get that. Either way, save your time and don’t bother contacting Troy.

I figured that may be the case. Was not sure if Troy could offer anything. The vehicle I purchased had about 10 days left before the 36 months so just made it.
