    Tire recommendation

I put on the Michelin Defenders at 40k miles. I am now at 100k miles and they are down to 2/32. Since they lasted 60k but are rated for 90k, Discount Tire gave me $200 credit towards a new set. Continental Contact A/S (Eco Plus) had a $100 rebate so am going to try them, also with 90k mile...

Charger failure: Toyota puts the WAR in Warranty

Very strange. I have had my heater replaced and my motor drive system (because of noise) under warranty with the JdeMO installed, both mechanically and electrically, without any issues. Neither the dealer (Austin Toyota AutoNation), nor the roaming technician from Houston that performed the...

Who is currently waiting for a drive unit replacement?

After many months of waiting, my drive unit was finally replaced. The silence is SOOOOO NICE! EV Grin all over again. I am in Austin and they delivered the unit to the local dealership. A tech came in and swapped it out in one day. My GOM actually seemed to get better after I got it back...

Who is currently waiting for a drive unit replacement?

I'm still waiting on my first replacement. Currently at 95k miles. Got approved around 85k miles. Been gradually getting louder since 40k miles.

Tony-Test: How to Calculate Rated Range/Battery Degradation

At 91k miles on my 2012, The Tony Test yielded 129/146 = 88%. However, 125 miles was what was achievable when new, now I get around 95 miles and only when it is >80F. So that's more like 75% of original. The only maintenance has been new tires, new 12V battery, new windshield due to rock...

Who is currently waiting for a drive unit replacement?

I have an appointment with the local dealer (Austin, TX) to get a recording of my DU sound. Then they send it off for a decision to be made. Does anyone have any idea how they make the recording, where they hold the microphone, and under what conditions they drive the vehicle (fast or slow...

    Ugh. In an accident.

You're lucky you didn't have to replace the windshield as well. A rock popped up and cracked mine mid August. It took 3 months to get a new one installed (they had to have it shipped from Japan!). Glad yours is fixed up.

Highest Mileage Gen 2 RAV4 EV

82,577! My overall range has dropped from 125 miles to 100 miles.

Powering the grid from your car

I could be mistaken, but I think the DC-DC is only good for 1.5kW. Throw in the inverter losses from 12V to 48V and 48V to 240VAC conversions, and you have about 1kW available. Enough to keep your refrigerators and lights going in a black-out, but that's about it.

EXCESS 12v LOAD WHEN OFF - DRAINING 12 VOLT BATTERY

On Tuesday after an opportunity charge at work using a AeroVironment Turbo Cord at 240VAC, I received the LO reading on the mileage when I turned it on. Wouldn't go to Ready, so turned it off and on again. This time LO switched back to normal mileage remaining and turned on the car as normal...

Out of State RAV4 EV Prob Gonna Trade In

Hi Spiffster, I went through the same emotions in 2014. I decided to get the extended warranty and drive it it right up to 125k (currently at 66k). My motor noise is annoying, but have little faith that I can get the local dealership to do what is necessary to give Toyota Corporate the...

Highest Mileage Gen 2 RAV4 EV

I just passed 65k miles. Maybe I am second place overall but have the highest on a single drive train? However, it is starting to get noisy.

Level 1 vs. Level 2 Charging to Minimize Battery Degradation

Both rates, level 1 and 2, are considered low charge rate for our large battery pack and do not add heat because of the charging process. Additionally, our thermally managed pack keeps the battery within certain limits to maintain long life to deal with ambient conditions. So I don't see any...

The "Henry" method of charging the RAV4

From my testing, dipping into low states of charge is harder on the battery than charging to 100% (Extended Charge setting). Go ahead and use the Extended Charge feature and sleep in!

    Complete 12 volt electrical failure

Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) would be a better solution than mixed oxides (that operate between 3-4V in the above application). LFP works best from 2.6 to 3.65V/cell (10.5 to 14.6V for a "12V" battery), which is exactly the same working range as sealed lead acid. Same advice holds with regard...

    Valence U1-12RT - 12 volt Lithium battery

I would not call it plug and play. First, the Valence U1-12RT is much smaller in all dimensions and weight. That being said, I had to add a riser so that it would be tall enough to be able to be clamped by the original battery tie down hardware. Also, the battery comes with flat terminals and...

    Check EV System warning message

I also had a Check EV error pop up on me last Thursday (my 5th occurrence during the entire 50k miles I've had the car). Does it seem odd that so many have happened so close together (5? in one week)?

    Valence U1-12RT - 12 volt Lithium battery

If the 12V battery is disconnected for ~5-7 hours, does that mean I have to reprogram my radio stations (which I would dread), or does the system have enough memory/capacitance to keep it stored during this test? BTW, I swapped out my 12V lead acid battery for a lithium ion Valence U1-12RT...

MyEV, a third party EV logger and app

I too had to go over 700EV miles before the Battery Health meter provided any feedback for the RAV4EV. 99%. Good to know, after 2 years and 48k miles. Not really sure what it checks for or what it uses to come up with that value, but the information really isn't very valuable except over the...

MyEV, a third party EV logger and app

I have the same item. Since there is a 12V HOT wire powering the pathetic tailgate light, I thought I would take off the rear passenger side cover, tap into it, and then run it along the inside of the bumper over to the drivers side.
