    Bought a dying RAV4

Take a trip to the Rav4EV forum and look for posts from aflash and others. We have a pair of these vehicles and are aiming to replace them with an XC40 Recharge in a couple of months. User aflash is in Ukraine and has the ability to connect to the Tesla computer in the back panel of the Rav4EV...

Yet another 2013 Rav4EV on the market

The nuisance commercial on television, we buy any car dot com, has a local depot and without being able to provide bearing failure and charger intermittent notes, the offer is nearly nine grand! Even if that's cut in half on disclosure, that's a substantial amount. It was only the online quote...

Yet another 2013 Rav4EV on the market

thanks for the input. With that information, if the dealer offers anything close to five grand, it's a sure thing. I've edited the post to reflect current range.

Yet another 2013 Rav4EV on the market

Until you check your speed sensor, you really can't determine that it's from a "gearbox." You ask my opinion of a value or market for the vehicle, yet my post is to determine just that information.

Yet another 2013 Rav4EV on the market

43,355 miles on the odometer, checked just moments ago. Currently runs great, but sings like a turbocharger and the speed sensor is quite dribbled. The OBC has issues. It has become intermittent and will charge after connecting and disconnecting the J1772 between 1 and 8 times. The 8 is the...

2013 RAV4 EV For Sale Bad Drive Motor

in paragraph a) is it "did work" or "did not work" as effectively? Thank you for the gear box clarification.

2013 RAV4 EV For Sale Bad Drive Motor

I'm willing to wager that you're hearing the oft-discussed bearing failure/coolant ingress. It would sound like a failing gearbox. It's a great sound for an EV to make, if it wasn't for the impending doom. To the best of my understanding, there's no gearbox in the vehicle. I suspect there's some...

2013 RAV4 EV For Sale Bad Drive Motor

Transfer case? Is this a four wheel drive vehicle?

    Removing low speed proximity sound

60K drivetrain warranty? Is that independent of any platinum extended plans? Our fleet of two are both under 50k miles. Is this something to be pursued for us?

    Removing low speed proximity sound

If you can hear it at 40 mph, check your speed sensor for coolant ingress. The federally mandated sound ceases at about 25 mph, but a failing motor (bearing damage) will be audible well beyond that speed. Also note if it is more prevalent while under load (foot on the pedal) and vanishes when...

2002 RAV4 EV in search of new home

This forum is a great resource, especially since they migrated to a new system which supports RSS, but that's not important right now. Consider to sign up for the legacy Rav4EV mailing list and post your message. The response may be overwhelming, as there are plenty of active legacy owners on...

    Tesla Powertrain Diagnostics ("TPD") v1.1.46

This post is wonderfully comprehensive. Some time ago, I worked with Vlad and constructed a cable similar to those presented in the supplemental post. It connected the Tesla port to a specially configured router, to which the data was transmitted across the globe. Is it fair to believe that this...

ALL POSTS - Heater Failed - Service Bulletin TSB 0111-14

The part about positive first / negative last applies to attaching jumper cables, from what I recall of my ICE days. When one has a wrench on a negative terminal cable clamp, if the wrench contacts a body part or frame that is grounded, nothing happens. That's the reason for removing only the...

ALL POSTS - Heater Failed - Service Bulletin TSB 0111-14

Positive or negative? I thought one always removed the negative battery cable on a negative ground vehicle.

    Help replacing a coolant pump

The number 2 pump assembly is the easy one. I'm not sure why the dealer would call either one of them the "left" pump, as it's typical to reference position by the motor vehicle operator perspective. If your left turn signal is out, it's not when you're facing the car! With the diagram in mind...

    Help replacing a coolant pump

I've replaced the right pump and prior to squeezing off the clamps, I used scissor-like glue clamps to flatten the hoses to prevent leaking. I didn't worry about the battery, because when the power and control cable is disconnected, there are no exposed contacts. I just popped the hood and tried...

Should we sell our 2012 RAV4EV, almost 90k miles ?

Our batteries are doing pretty well, but only 41K on the odo. I wasn't aware that doors could be a problem, but no sign of trouble there. The one with the coolant seeping into the motor has to last only five more months, as we don't have a viable repair/service path at present.

Who still owns a RAV4 EV?

Great looking Tesla badge. Both of our 2013s carry outdoor grade vinyl: It's impressive how "invisible" these vehicles are to the general public. The EV badge on the rear door is subtle and the "electric" on the front doors are rather low to the eye. The contemporary crop of EVs tend to...

Who still owns a RAV4 EV?

I've not pursued any dealer involvement, as we've expired the warranty, based on your answer. I've evaluated the DU noise based on the coolant speckled speed sensor in my wife's motor. It's been too cold to check the one in mine, but the motor has been quiet. I expect it will be a "write-off"...
