The smallest Quick 240V from two 120V outlets?

Thanks for the schematic and the advice. I have found a 240V neon at DigiKey for $3.40. I am planning to place three neons on the device, 1 each amber on the 120 lines to show that the relay has closed, and one on the 240 to show that it is present. My model will be a little larger than yours...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Glenn: I am still not able to find the escutcheon at Digi-Key. Must have copied the wrong number. Please send me the correct part number, and also the number for the pushbutton if you think I should get it from them. Mike

The smallest Quick 240V from two 120V outlets?

Herr Helmholtz: I have ordered the relays, but can't find a reasonable 240v lamp. Most of those on Grainger cost as much as the rest of the project. Do you know of a source? I guess that I can just place two 120V lamps in series. They are quite cheap at Radio Shack. Alternatively, if I knew...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

The point of the exercise was to get a smaller EVSE board so that one could fit a 12V supply for the relay so that the system would reliably run a 120V. Your idea may work (I am unsure of what relay you use), but unfortunately i have already ordered the 80A relay from Hong Kong.

The smallest Quick 240V from two 120V outlets?

Herr Prof. Dr. Helmholtz: (I apologize for the salutation but I am also a physicist and physician) :) Can you provide a schematic of your mini Quick240 and also identify the relays. I looks like a nice project. :ugeek:

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Hi everyone. I appreciate the offers. Val of EMW offered me one at a very good price, much better than what I am paying out of Hong Kong. Unfortunately, the folks in China offered me a low cost upgrade to Express delivery that should get the relay here by the week of April 7th, and I took it...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Glenn: Placed an order with Amazon for the relay, unfortunately it is apparently shipped from China. Estimated delivery is April 23rd to May 9th. Do you have any of the relays on hand or do you know of another source that can get it here quicker? Mike

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Glenn: I think we have a deal :D . I will put together a parts list and send it to you by e-mail tonight. If it looks good, do you think you can assemble both units in the afternoon of 4/12, or would I have to leave them with you? Mike

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Glenn: I assume you mean this relay: DC 12V Coil 80A 28VDC 250V AC High Power Relay DPDT JQX-62F 2C by Amico currently $27.71 on Amazon. The OpenEVSE Plus v.2 is only $115 as a quick kit, $155 built. Which do you want? If you gan give me a good price ( :) ) for the bottom half of my...

Phil: Thanks for the offer of the Leviton receptacles. I realized that the next gathering I can attend is 4/12 (I have to work this weekend), and that I have next week off. I decided to buy two receptacles, a 6-50 plug and a 12/3 120V 4-way extension cord that I can cut off to get a molded...

What 240V power sources have you used?

n3ckf: If you have a 14-50 plug, you don't need a 14-30 plug. EVSE's don't use the neutral lead of the 14-50 so you can cut it off the plug and grind it flat (use a Dremel tool). The plug will then fit a 14-50, a 14-30, and possibly a 14-20 (I haven't seen one of those but the picture seems...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

The UtiliTech came with a cable clamp, but it was too small to use with the 10/3 cable that came with my 10-30 dryer cable. I opted instead for a standard 3/4" cable clamp that I installed in the box. Since the dryer cord was 4' long, I now have more than 3' of 10/3 flat wire for other...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Phil: I can use two, although one can be a 14-20 or 14-30. I won't be able to make the 3/29 gathering, but should be able to come the one on 4/5. Can you bring them there? Mike

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Hi Glenn: I should have waited!! Anyway, since the EVSE you sold me will sometimes (or most of the time) work at 120V, will the inboard charger on the RAV4 charge at a higher rate than 12A at 120V? If so, it would be worth my while to build a 120V converter. BTW, what model Leviton...

What 240V power sources have you used?

Tony: Thanks for the beautiful pictures. A question on wiring the 10-30 to the 14-30 (50). The 10-30 is a 3 wire system labelled X, Y, and W. The 14-30 is a 4 wire system labelled X, Y, W, and G. I assume that since the neutral wire (W) is not used in an EVSE, I should connect the W lead...

What 240V power sources have you used?

It is part of the Tesla charging station near Gelsons. DO NOT park in the Tesla spots, but on the other side, there are 2 or three spots that are right next to a 14-50r on the back wall of the Tesla location. BE SURE to ask permission from Tesla (take the escalator up to ground level and they...

    First generation RavEV

Beautiful car, unfortunately it is located in Denmark. I have seen kits to convert an inductive EVSE to J1772, but can you convert the car?
