Finally, a Toyota RAV4 EV replacement... maybe?

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I suppose if you are going to come late to the party you need to make a good impression. This could be it. I hope we are talking a couple years at most.

ALL POSTS - motor whine or "HUM" (Milling Sound)

I'm in east county also, and when I am forced to use a dealer I use Toyota of El Cajon. They replaced the DU on my 2014 in 2016. I suggest you get in touch with Tony at Quick Charge Power (San Marcos). They can likely do a motor swap or repair for less than $5k. But there may be other...

Car won't charge / Onboard Charger Failure

Yeah mine does that too. I noticed it this morning. 2014, 65,000 miles

    motor replacement cost $15k

In my opinion: 1 - they used a rebuilt drive unit and it will be the latest revision applicable. 2 - was it fully charged when you tried this? When the SOC drops, so does acceleration. 3 - I think you're out of luck unless CarMax or similar will sell a warranty for a car they did not sell...

ALL POSTS - motor whine or "HUM" (Milling Sound)

Let us know how that works. I know the 3/36 factory warranty has rental car coverage, but depending on whether this is being done under the original "powertrain" warranty or an extended warranty it could be an issue. Find out which warranty applies then show them the page with rental car...

Did the drive unit fail? What are the details? Typically the DU makes noise or has other symptoms, but a catastrophic failure is rare.

    Drive Train Vibration

Thanks, I rotate and balance the tires every 5000 mi. Next one due in about 1000 mi. So we will see if that helps.

Deep cycle AGM battery almost died out on me

With a good battery and dc-dc converter your voltage will be reasonably steady. So if you have a readout at the accy outlet you will know what normal looks like. Then if it starts dropping from normal you will know something is up. In that sense it doesn't matter whether you are at the terminals...

    Drive Train Vibration

I have a 2014 Rav4 EV with ~65k miles. Drive Unit was replaced in 2016, around 25k miles. Over the past 5K miles I'm noticing a new vibration that slowly seems to be getting progressively worse. When driving on a smooth surface, like good asphalt, the car is very smooth. If I accelerate in the...

    Milling noise FIX

Excellent. Thank you! I always wish I had done photos and videos after I complete a repair. Thanks for actually doing it and sharing.

buy a used RAV4 EV or wait?

I'll keep mine and run it into the ground. I'm sure when my 8yr 125k warranty expires repair parts will be available used. Also, parts will be refurbished or easier to repair I believe. The motor swap is a $15k expense at the dealer, but a real mechanic can replace the bearings and seals for a...

    Just purchased a 2012 w/ 2550 miles ~ I have questions

Any Toyota dealership should be able to look up the service history, recall completion and extended warranty information. This should have been done before purchase. The extended warranty may need to be transferred (registered) to the new owner, I'm not sure. Have the 12v battery tested and...

    Extended Charge not working

Sorry, you are missing the way it works. Normal charging will take the battery to 35 kWh. Extended charge will take it above that to 100% capacity. When new that is 41.8 kWh. As the battery degrades, normal charge will still charge to 35 kWh, but extended charge is reduced. With further...

    Battery light on!!!

Yes, it would sure be nice if you shared the details so that other's may learn from your experience. You were certainly eager to find help on this forum, so will you also share to help others that might encounter the same or a similar issue?

Check your coolant levels. If the drive unit bearings are getting really bad then the coolant seals may be leaking too and allow coolant to leak into the drive unit / inverter assembly - very bad. If the car has a significant noise while driving, go to the dealer and ask them to test drive it...

    Tony, did this ever happen?

    Transmission Fluid Capacity

The Mitchell manual says capacity is a reference quantity, 1.26 quarts.

    .

The warranty should have a provision for a rental car. Have the dealer set it up for you.
