Open Source CHAdeMO inlet for Rav4 EV?

I have been following TonyWilliam's efforts to provide CHAdeMO for Rav4 EV which he terms "JdeMO" with interest and wondered when I might see an open source Chademo implementation for the Rav4EV. I am certain that there will always be a market for the so called JdeMo but for the DIY folks on...

What AC input adapters needed for L1/L2 EVSE?

The problem with this approach is that you'd get charging limited to 12A and not the 16A that would be possible on the Tesla 5-20p adapter. The more I use a portable EVSE, the more I realize the limitations of the Tesla UMC conversion.

    Charging on 110V

I've used both too and whilst they both work, I find OpenEVSE much more elegant an implementation; JuiceBox isn't anywhere as refined.

    Charging on 110V

It's the same firmware; there's only one stable current firmware for all openEVSEs. Here's the link to it: https://github.com/lincomatic/open_evse This firmware can be edited with whatever parameters that you want. I set mine to L1 from 6A-28A defaulting to 18A. L2 from 6A to 42A...

    Car enthusiasts on this forum?

I enjoy the photos of various fun cars. Here's a photo of my weekend roadster - a gas guzzler but still fun!

    Jesla or Leviton EVB40-PST

One can choose not to install a 50A rated outlet on a 40A circuit in ones own garage but there's no way to stop someone else from doing it if it's allowed under code. It's not smart for an EVSE to automatically assume that it can pull 40A from this circuit because this limits versatility. This...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Wow, these prices are interesting. Here's what I see currently: 1. OpenEVSE v2 quick kit $65 2. Chinese relay $12 3. J1772 cable 40A $145 4. power cable NEMA 14-50 $15 5. Box $15 Total: $252 That's for a portable dual voltage 120/240V OpenEVSE that's quick to build but if you do more...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

This would not be a good idea; I have these adapters and the cable is only rated for 20A. Most people who build OpenEVSEs use the NEMA 14-50 (without the neutral connected) because RV parks use these and they can be found at many homes. As such the NEMA 14-50 plug (and with the neutral off it...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Hi Jim. I saw your ebay listing for this EVSE. eBay Listing Nicely done but why not list it here on the forum so that forum members can buy if we want like GlennD does?

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Jim, a step by step instruction set would be great. I looked at your pictures and particularly like the easy follow to schematic like photo. Let me make a suggestion (the same one that I made to DevinL recently). Have a look at your photo: The way you have the relay connected to the power...

    EVSE set duration possible?

Chuck, Welcome to the forum. I've been away from the forum for awhile but found sometime today to get back on so let me answer some of your questions. As you know, OpenEVSE is an open source fully J1772 compliant EVSE (many commercial EVSEs are not fully compliant). You're quite right that the...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I've been away from the forum for quite some months now! It's good to see people building more OpenEVSEs. David, you almost had the link to the photo right. To get it, just click on the link that you provided and once there, you have to right click and choose copy the URL. Now past it in like...

Wow, Devin! This looks like a fun trip. Take and post photos along the way if you can.

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

@Chris, Thanks for stopping by and chiming in so that the information is accurate. I thought Valery was confused about details of the OpenEVSE so I'm glad you clarified a few things. @Valery, Thanks for responding to my post; while you can see that I prefer Chris' OpenEVSE platform, I really do...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

wow! nicely done! it uses the same enclosure as my second iteration but bringing the LCD and button up through the top of box (like my first one) so that options can be changed without opening the box. I like it a lot! again, well done!

Devin, Have you put your portable OpenEVSE together yet? Post some photos if you have.

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

The Juicebox folks have done a great job getting the word out about their products. I like that it's open source but in my opinion, its design and usability needs more tweaking. I find the OpenEVSE platform truly open source with years of field trial and a design that is elegant. It can be built...

Buying new tires...anyone done this already

I didn't know that either until I changed tires on my LEAF; now friends think I'm a bit crazy about tires. Interestingly, I changed from the stock Ecopia EP422 (which were not very good) to Michelin MXM4 tires and saw significant improvements in handling, cornering, pavement feedback, stop...

Buying new tires...anyone done this already

I switched out my tires at 500 miles and put on Michelin defenders. These tires are sticker and less noisy. I haven't noticed a change in range but then again I only had the originals for a short while. At 12K miles now and these tires look new (rated for 80K miles I think).

The smallest Quick 240V from two 120V outlets?

Interesting, so buickanddeere came to us from the Spark forum? I wonder what they think about building your own EVSE there or better yet adding CHAdeMo to a car....
