Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

One of the software designers of the Leviton EVB40-P5T came by to take a look at our unit. He checked all the connections then hooked up a fairly expensive scope. He was looking at a two signals that he indicated were too close to each other. If as the unit heated up the one voltage line...

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

I contacted Leviton and they are sending someone out at 1:30 pm today. That is pretty fast. They were a little concerned that I opened up the unit and changed positions for the plug from flush mount to surface mount. But I cannot think of anything that I would have done that would result in...

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

Well, I might have spoken too soon. Last night I went out and put the connector back on the Leaf, and left it there. It is scheduled to charge after midnight. This morning I went out and took a look and the Leviton had a solid red fault light on. So even though it worked for a while the...

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

By the way it is great that Val's EMotorWerks and Tony's Quick Charge Power are bringing great things to our EV lives. American capitalism and ingenuity at its best. Where would we be without brave entrepreneurial souls like these? Many thanks are owed. I have been thinking at night about...

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

Thanks, I must have been experiencing a senior moment. You are correct it is Leviton not Clipper Creek. I will check the ribbon coupon, though I thought I put it on correctly. Manny

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

The Clipper Creek seemed to work with the Rav4EV then it too began flashing the red fault lite. I decided to just keep it off and contact them Monday. I don't think it was anything that I did in moving the power cord from the internal position (flush mount) to the external (surface mount)...

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

I went ahead and tried to charge the Leaf with the Clipper Creek. Again I got the fault signal. I pulled the cord and tried with the Rav4EV. It seemed to work ok. Something must be wrong with the Clipper Creek. I will need to call Tech Service on Monday. Manny

Portable 40A EVSE for $361 versus Leviton for $1500

I sold my modified Leaf charger too soon. I still have another 2 months before turning in the car. So it has been kind of a pain to move the JESLA charger around. When I need to charge both the RAv4EV and the Leaf it becomes more of an issue. So lately I have been looking for another...

RAV4 Dislikes LEAF EVSE with EVSEUpgrade Rev 2

I had the same problem. My upgraded 2011 Leaf brick would not work with my Rav4EV. I sold it for $250 plus a unmodified Leaf Brick which by the way also does not work with the Rav4EV. I still have the leaf for a few more months and needed a means of charging. I actually can use the JESLA...

Using more power; paying less for it

I have both a Leaf and the Rav4EV. I have solar panels and began using the SCE TOU rates probably 2 1/2 years ago. It allowed me to almost charge the Leaf for free. We averaged 350 kwh per month for the Leaf. Because of the rates being lower after 12 midnight and the solar generating during...

A tale of two Toyota dealerships

You bring up some great points. I ended up purchasing my car from our local Toyota Dealership in Tustin. They sold us our last Prius and were more than willing to meeting any competitive pricing that I had. It was more a convenience issue for us. I would have easily gone the distance to...

A tale of two Toyota dealerships

Thanks for the update. I can certainly appreciate your wanting to drop this matter. The important thing is that we took action. There is no power like the power in numbers. Enjoy your car. I certainly have thus far. Every time I drive it I compare it to the Leaf. At the end of the day I...

Auto Folding Mirror Module Install Video

When I saw your post about the auto retract mirrors I could not wait to order mine. I found one on Amazon at half price around $12. So I ordered it. When it came in I gathered all my stuff and went to work. The panels were not hard to pull thanks to your insight. I hooked everything up and...

Question about electrical adapter for JESLA

Well I was so pleased with myself having put the damn thing together. It ended up costing me about $30. However, the Tesla adapter is integrated into their unit. A much better looking solution. So I will probably order one as well. Thanks for the input. Manny

Question about electrical adapter for JESLA

I recently purchased the JESLA for charging our Rav4ev, I wanted to make sure I have all the necessary adapters. I purchased a 30A Male to 50A Female. I decided that I needed rather wanted to cover all my bases. So I thought I would venture out and make a 14-50 amp to 6-50 amp adapter. I...

A tale of two Toyota dealerships

I agree that because they are a private organization they are free to make decisions that are different from other dealerships. However, in this instance they turned away someone in harms way. He had his son with him, that not with standing you don't leave people to fend for themselves when it...

    Tesla model S UMC with J1772 & JESLA(tm) conversion

Just got mine the other day. Great product. I am so pleased that I decided to purchase. Now I can take it with me or just leave it plugged in. Very nice build quality. Well worth the price. Manny

Take a look at the link I posted above concerning Toyota of Carlsbad Missions Statement. It says do no harm! Glad you made it home safely. Keep us informed as to what you do and the responses you get. Manny
