Engadget Expand talk w/executive PM of Rav4 EV

If he drives one, he should have already demanded to fix the time charge schedule function :-)

    Range on RAV

I do not understand why cell balancing happens few hours after the vehicle completed its charge (whether it is completed in normal mode or extended mode). The first few hours after it's fully charged, discharge rate is much much higher. The 2002 Rav4EV does the cell balancing RIGHT after it's...

Running the Rav4 low on energy (Turtle Mode)

I always reset my trip odometer and it has become my habit. It was on a extended charge. I suggest you don't follow my Rav because you will quickly become "impatient" following me :-)

Running the Rav4 low on energy (Turtle Mode)

Same here. As I remember correctly, I did not turn on climate control. Perhaps this is the reason why I didn't get the CCL like Tony did. Occ: were your climate control ON? Tony: were your climate control ON?

ALL POSTS - motor whine or "HUM" (Milling Sound)

You, Rav4EVers, makes me wonder how that "whining" noise sounds like. None of our two 2012 Rav4EVs nor Model S has any noise. I went out on Dolphin (Rav) this afternoon, drove (with music off) between 65-75 mph for about 30 miles (this is out of my ordinary). I could hear some wind noise and...

Running the Rav4 low on energy (Turtle Mode)

In the case of LEAF, I had less than a mile after turtle came on. In the case of the 2002 Rav4EV, I have ~8 miles after turtle. I only tried once per EV just to test and understand the BMS system. I was too chicken to get Dolphin to dead (my kids were out of town, no "help" button). So I...

Actually, the LEAF turtle is identical to the 2002 Toyota Rav4EV.

My turtle came on LBW, never seen CCL.

EVSE J1772 Compatibility Thread for RAV4 EV

And.. Now you have Tony's YAGS (yet another good suggestion) on getting the Tesla portable, cut the S connector and connect with a J-connecor. I saw somewhere (I don't remember which, perhaps teslamotorsclub?) that someone purchased another portable for his/her Model S for $5xx, then there...

    Extended Toyota Factory Warranty

I took my 2002 Rav4EV to Toyota of Palo Alto for service every 5000 miles. Never a problem. Each time costs me ~$100 (rotate tires, check IR on battery pack, windshield fluid, break fluid, tires, etc.). Each time is less than an hour. The capacitor replacement was around $500, but if you do...

    Extended Toyota Factory Warranty

I have had 3 EVs before the 1st purchased of the 2012 Rav4EV. None these 3 EVs were purchased with special paint nor extended warranty. As for my 2002 Rav4EV, the "major" failures are items related to wear and tears such as wheel bearings and break pads. The non wear and tears item was the...

    Toyota RAV4 EV Focus Group

My chance to "speak" is coming up in less than two weeks on March 19. I plan to focus on list of improvements for the current (2nd generation) of Rav4EV as well as a list of what I would like to see in the future Rav4EV (3rd generation). However, I do agree, that Toyota has created an unfair...

$17,500 off by 1 Dec 2014, Production Ended August 2014

Great find!! Thank you, Tony. A West Los Angeles resident is interested to know: * Which dealers are offering the new RAV in west Los Angeles area? * Do you have a feel as to which is the most competent to handle any (unlikely) technical issues with the vehicle? Since I live in NoCal so I...

Ditto. Thanks for the clarification. The Rav4EV has a coefficient of 0.3. Do you know the number for the 2013 LEAF SL? Curious mind wants to know.

$17,500 off by 1 Dec 2014, Production Ended August 2014

Wait.. You guys are too fast for me. I remember someone brought a Rav4EV and got $39xx dealer discount. Am I right that the math is: $49,800+$845(des)-$10K(Toyota)-$10K(gov)-$4000(dealer)=$26,645 (then add floormat). If this is correct, then Rav4EV's (50kWh battery) is $532.9/kWh LEAF SL...

With current price incentives December sales may be better

I got my 2nd $2500 check from Toyota in today's mail, from the purchase of my 2nd Rav4EV. In conclusion, I got $7500 off from the Toyota's incentive + ~$850 dealer's discount on my 2nd Rav4EV.

    EV+PV - Who Has It?

looks good!! One question you may want to ask SunPower is that whether the battery packs are "maintenance free". Mine is totally maintenance free. I have not even open the battery cabinets since the install.
