    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Solid State relay equivalents have 2 problems. The safety one is that they fail shorted. The other is at EVSE currents they require a large heat sink.

If you do not use Chris's thick mounting plate It might fit but it will be close. It will comprise the weatherproofing to mount directly to the case. So far I have received 4 of the relays so it seems to be the real deal. The price is right.

    JuiceBox Basic is sold

There are two holes in the top circuit board allowing access to the pots on the front board. The one behind the voltage display is for current and the one behind the amp display is voltage.

    JuiceBox Basic is sold

I like the LCD units vs the 2 color LED units. The LCD units have cal pots so you can compensate for the less than sine wave car load. The LED units are fixed. After putting a scope on a current coil I purchased a RMS clamp on meter. I can not speak for the RAV4 but my Leaf is really ugly at...

    JuiceBox Basic is sold

I forgot to reply to your price question. It has always had an input cable and since the meter was a freebie I am not charging for it.

    JuiceBox Basic is sold

I have a whole bunch of adapters. I agree the meters are great. A couple of years ago I was paying around $20 and I thought that was a good deal. Now they are around $15 and if you look really hard they can be had for $10. I have had my meter on my EVSE for a couple of years now. It has...

    JuiceBox Basic is sold

The JuiceBox PCB is very large. The new one just fit after I rounded the corners. It is that close in a 8 inch junction box. I found that I had an extra voltage-current meter laying around so I put it in this morning. Here is a photo of it.

This is available with no J1772 cable for $200. I can supply a modified Blink cable for an additional $100. If you have Quick Charge Power drop ship a flexable 40A cable I will install it for you. I have done this several times. Local pickup in Anaheim is available or I can ship it for an...

    Tire Pressures and hypermiling

Many years ago I purchased a trooper that rode like a rock! It turns out that they fill the tires to very high values to prevent flat spotting during transport. The dealer is supposed to set them to normal values during dealer prep. The vehicle I received still had 60# in the tires.

32A Level 2 EVSE for sale

A EVSE always switches with no current unless an error happens. The car closes its contactor after the EVSE and opens it before the EVSE. I see no problem with running 40A.

I have built 4 units. They work great and they are just about required for setting a basic JuiceBox. That said, I find myself using my basic unpowered simulator since it is small and convenient.

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Chris just got back from vacation and it is taking a while for stuff. I usually order bare boards and he has them in stock. I received 2 last week. It is strictly a one person part time effort.

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

When you flash the board it comes set to 16A. The stock current table has 5A steps from 10A to 80A. No 32A. I usually edit the table for 2A steps and a limit of 50A. If you have a programmer you can set it to what you like. Quick Charge Power has been prompt on my orders. They charge a lot for...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

There is more than enough room but you have to drill new mounting holes in the thick lexan plastic mounting plate. I think if you did not care about weatherproofness and mounted to the bottom directly a small contactor would even fit. I know I was able to mount a Barbouri Ver 4.21 board and...

    Charging station vs JESLA

Hay Tony, I have to wonder about the 3 feet. I have been buying electric range cables since they are cheap. Since there are a lot of ranges out there the cables are cheep and they include a molded 14-50 plug. Every one I have purchased or seen is 4 feet long and they all come with UL stickers...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

If you can solder the DIY kit is $89 vs $115 for the surface mount DIY. I went from a 20 ft cable to a 25 ft cable. I no longer have to back in. The price is minimal to go to 25 feet. A 25ft cable is $204 with their expensive Fedex shipping.

Well the Qianji relay claims CE on the cover. No one uses the dust cover in an enclosure since it restricts how the terminals exit. I do not agree with it's 80A rating but it works fine at half current. With good ventilation it could work at 80A but a device that runs hot bothers me. The...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Using a 240V contactor defeats the use as a L1 device. I realize your Hydra is a 240V only device but I am trying to build universal devices. Realize UL parts are likely quite safe to use but no modified commercial device or home made device is UL approved. Budget Chinese parts safe or not...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

It is interesting that you can use a 28V relay. The Qianji specs are pull in at 90% and drop out at 10%. That is far below the JuiceBox's 15V or the OpenEVSE's 12V. It would be nice since it would draw half the current. The catalog pages are available for download via a Google search but the...
