    EVSE 40A circuit

40A means that you can charge at 32A ( 80% of 40A ). The Tesla charger respects the J1772 protocol so any EVSE less than 32A will work. You could use a 24A EVSE but why throw away capacity. I charge my Mercedes Class B ED at 32A (now 34A) currently but I am going to upgrade to 40A and charge...

RANT: Received "Backordered" Announcement for CAV Decals

I just leased a Mercedes B Class. The dealer put hybrid in the registration and I made him change it to electric. You are right, you really need to pay attention!

ALL POSTS - Heater Failed - Service Bulletin TSB 0111-14

When I was managing a cellular service dept I had an installer that would always tell the customer 15 minutes. After a few 15 minutes the customer was really pissed! It is always better to overestimate the time. Then when it is ready faster you are golden.

Best OC dealership to service my RAV4EV?

I have had very good luck with Connell Nisan in Costa Mesa and acceptable service at Stadium Nissan in Orange. Given a choice I would go to Costa Mesa but when my battery died I was towed to Stadium. OPS wrong car and forum, Never Mind.

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I seem to recall that the relay spec sheet said it could carry 40A. It just can not switch it. As long as there is no error the relay is fine.

OpenEVSE Arduino Shield setup for Sale

Since no one seemed to want an Arduino shield EVSE I have withdrawn this. I will use most of the parts in another unit.

OpenEVSE Arduino Shield setup for Sale

Most people want a complete EVSE. I can install a 32A Yazaki cable for an additional $130 or I can install a 40A Quick Charge Power cable at no charge. I have had several cables drop shipped to me to install. www.quickchargepower.com

    Charging on 110V

That is a compile option. Because they ran out of ram, if you select the RTC it automatically disables CLI or RAPI. The OpenEVSE in later versions will bypass the LCD if it is not present. If you have the RGB LED it operates like the LCD and the LCD must be selected. Both Basic JuiceBox boards...

    Charging on 110V

The car decides whether it is L1 or L2 depending on the voltage. The OpenEVSE uses a pair of Mid400s to look at the lines. If only one goes low it says their is only 120V and it uses the L1 table and it puts L1 on the display. If both go low is says there is 240V and it uses the L2 table and...

    Charging on 110V

That will work. In the first menu item select L2 instead of auto. In the second menu select 20A. The only downside is strictly cosmetic. The display will say L2.

    Charging on 110V

You will have to edit the L1 current table. Stock it stops at 16A. That is the max for a 20A circuit. The table is in plain text and it is easy to modify. You will need Arduino 1.01 and the files along with a programmer. There is instructions on the OpenEVSE site. If you are near Anaheim I can...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I have a 32A EVSE for sale on MNL. Since it is constructed with 40A components I can sell it without the J1772 cable for $325. You would then add a 40A J1772 cable like the one Tony Williams' company Quick Charge Power sells. It you have the cable drop shipped here like several people have done...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I have used that contactor in my personal OpenEVSE. It runs warm under my Leaf's 27.5A load. Lately it has developed a faint buzz.I added ventilation holes to let air circulate. I used the same contactor in fooljoe's unit. The OpenEVSE housing is an aluminum case power coated white and then...

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

An EV charger is a square wave load with an input filter to approximate a sine wave. Peak reading clamp ons read close but spend a little bit more and get a true RMS unit. My Leaf at full power is a fairly good sine wave. at half power it is a triangle wavw with rounded points.

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Watch the high current connectors. I have personally had a lot of failures. Where the connectors shine is for repeated temporary use. I find that they have good wiping action but poor gas tight connections. I no longer use them even though they are the defacto ham standard.

    Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I could not quote since there was too many nested quotes. I edited it and it is somewhat garbled. I just took my laptop and tape measure out to my garage. Based on these dimensions, the 80 amp chinese relay that Devin posted here...
