Have LEAF -- want RAV4 EV

Currently there are only two cars with Tesla power trains. They are the RAV4 EV and the Mercedes B class EV. Mercedes is switching to their own design and the RAV4 EV is long discontinued. I miss the power of my B but I am otherwise satisfied with my eGolf SEL.

Volt & Amp meter to replace charging "blinking lights"

I will never get a chance to try low temperatures. 40 degrees F is cold in Southern California. Once in a while it gets below freezing but not often. I see high temperatures more often since I live in desert conditions in Anaheim. Not at all like Phoenix though.

Volt & Amp meter to replace charging "blinking lights"

The install looks great! That is the same LCD unit that cost 16.88 shipped. The housing that you mounted it in looks great! mine bleeds at extreme temperatures. does yours?

Have LEAF -- want RAV4 EV

I liked it a lot. If it was not property tax season I would have gone with another. The eGolf is smaller but it has most of the same goodies. So far after 525 miles I am happy.

    --SOLD--Leviton EVB40-PST Level 2 Charger For sale

Before I started building OpenEVSE's I had a Leviton 16A EVSE for my 2012 Leaf. It was a very reliable no frills unit. At Brad's price this is a good deal.

Nema 40A OpenEVSE with RTC for sale

I was asked how the OpenEVSE timer works. OpenEVSE is totally open source and Goldserve added the timer and Lincomatic enhanced it. This requires an !2C timer chip like the DS1307 or even better the DS3231. Originally separate timer boards were used but Chris at OpenEVSE added them to the...

Have LEAF -- want RAV4 EV

You might look at a VW eGolf SE. After my Mercedes B was wrecked I leased a fully loaded SEL. VW currently has subsidy money on the SE and so far my SEL is averaging 4.3 miles per KWH. The car can easily go over 100 miles. I looked into leasing one of the last RAV4 EV's but the used car...

Nema 40A OpenEVSE with RTC for sale

Well I am currently driving a VW eGolf. My 40A charger charges the Golf happily at 30A. As long as the car is Ji772 complement it ignores the extra 10A and charges just fine. I realize only Tesla based cars charge at 40A but the car only takes what it needs and it ignores the extra 10A. I...

    I got myself a Juicebox 60a

The license plate frame was from a link here. It looks like mine was damaged but I will be happy to send it to you. The eGolf is not Tesla powered. I just have to wait for an estimate. It is totaled or it will sit for fourteen months. I am not going to drive a repaired crumple zone car. As I...

    I got myself a Juicebox 60a

Yeah a girl pulled out from a stop sigh and immediately went for the fast lane into my blind spot. I really hope the car is totaled but I will not drive an uncrumpled crumple zone car. Either it gets totaled( my agent thinks it will be) or it sits for the next 14 months. I had no time to break...

    I got myself a Juicebox 60a

I think Nick sells the pilot analyzer and emulater for a reasonable price. Worst case I can sell you a populated board. It requires a display and a backpack. Either from Chris or ADAfruit. Different chip so different programming. [email protected]

    I got myself a Juicebox 60a

That is what I like about OpenEVSE. The pilot is set from the setup menu in 2A steps. In one of the two basic JuiceBox units that I built I used one of Nick's display units to allow easy setting of the pot. Nick Sayer designed the analyzer I use. I think he now has surface mount version...

    I got myself a Juicebox 60a

If you are near Disneyland I will loan you a pilot analyzer so you can set the pilot accurately. The JuiceBox has a special setting for 30A without tools. If the PCB sees the pot at zero ohms it will set itself to 30A. This covers all non Tesla covered cars. It will also charge your car at a...

Nema 40A OpenEVSE with RTC for sale

AS this EVSE exists it is a 40A EVSE that requires a 50A circuit. By setting the current to 32A it can be used on a 40A circuit. This can charge any non Tesla based car fully. All non Tesla based cars charge at 30A or less. For example a Leaf will charge at 27.5A and if it senses the offered...

Volt & Amp meter to replace charging "blinking lights"

The one in my garage is now fine. When the temperature got to over one hundred degrees there was some black bleeding on the extreme edge. In a car it would need to be out of direct sunlight.

Nema 40A OpenEVSE with RTC for sale

I do not know how much current the car needs. The one for sale will work with any car but it would be overkill for a plug in car like the Volt. I do have a cheaper 16A unit listed on the RAV EV forum. Any J1772 compliant car takes as much current it needs. Thus a current Leaf will take the...

    EVSE Juicebox

Good for you. I was under the impression that only complete devices were approved. No add ons allowed. The UL considers the whole thing one sealed device. Opening it up to put on a new cable means that the device has to be resubmitted. In any event UL approval is only needed in a few anal...

Volt & Amp meter to replace charging "blinking lights"

I have noticed like the iPad the edge of the display turns blackish when very hot. I bet it bright sunlight it might turn totally black like the iPad does. Every thing has its plus and minus points.

Volt & Amp meter to replace charging "blinking lights"

Since the older volt amp display cost $20 and the new one is cheaper then why not use it? Power is easy since the unit is corrected to a power factor of one but having it show is a nice perk. Also in bright light the display turns reflected even if the blue back light is on.

    EVSE Juicebox

The Chargepoint is a very good EVSE but when you changed the cord the UL approval was lost. Even the slightest change voids the UL approval. I really think UL approval is a giant scam. Many EVSE's llke every Tesla supplied one work fine but lack UL approval. Ingineer stated on MNL that it costs...
