Re: Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

I just ordered 2 of those Chinese contactors from Aliexpress. Are you positive they wont fit into one of Chris' OpenEVSE cases? If you do not use Chris's thick mounting plate It might fit but it will be close. It will comprise the weatherproofing to mount directly to the case. So far I have receive...

Re: Homelink modification. Always on to vehicle ready

The plug has 3 wires. Red is hot, blue is switched on with the vehicle, white/black stripe is the ground. I stripped away some of the housing to give myself more room to work. Just cut the red wire and connect the plug end to the blue wire. This will give switched power to the Homelink buttons. I d...

Re: Solar Panel Discussion

The beauty of TOU is selling power at 49 cents and purchasing at 9 cents. (Southern California Edison) The 5 to 1 spread is a total rip until you turn it back on the power company. I have used 447 kWh (net from SCE) this month and my bill is a $2 credit. There is no way to do this with normal tiere...

Re: Just joined the club

As the meter and main panel are located on an exterior wall near the master bedroom a large string inverter would be less desirable due the noise. I have an SMA 4.5 kW inverter on the outside my bedroom wall. I've never heard a buzz or noise from it, unless I am outside standing right next to it an...

Re: Portable OpenEVSE at 40A

Wow, a lot of good info here. Thanks to all for contributing. I now feel I can make a list and build my portable 120/240V 40A EVSE succesfully and for a fraction of the cost of purchased equipment. There is a lot of discussion about relays. Does anyone have experience using Solid State Relays, and i...
