Wife wants a Tesla!
Time to sell her RAV4EV which is in excellent condition. 2012 with 93k miles. Asking $12.5k
In excellent condition inside and out. Still in remaining transferable Toyota Platinum Warranty to end of this year or 100k miles. A new motor was just installed last month...
I'll be at a cross-roads soon with my 2012 Rav4 EV. It has served my wife very well in the almost 7 years we'll have had it. The extended Toyota platinum warranty has also served us well in that time. Soon, the warranty will expire. Which is what puts us at this cross-roads.
Do we keep it...
Only 18 days later... and we finally have a diagnoses. @dstjohn99 likely nailed it.
Requires traction motor replacement. Digging in a little deeper, they're telling me that coolant leaked into the motor and onto the speed sensor causing the error message.
Am I correct to interpret this as...
I'm in the same boat. 97k miles on my wife's RAV4. Platinum 7yr/125k warranty is expiring in Dec this year.
Is there any cost effective way to either extend this or get a new warranty policy?
If the 5yr/60k Toyota USED car Platinum warranty is an option, anyone have a sense of the cost...
Great input all.
I actually have a techstream for my other Lexus vehicle and am a pretty accomplished wrencher. Cursury check of all coolant levels were fine.
It's my wife's car and is still under warranty. Last yr of platinum 7yr 125k warranty, so I'm letting the dealer handle this. Had...
Thanks miimura. That's what I'm thinking that it's the coolant pump. I had her in sport mode and was cooking up the hill pretty good when it happened.
The drive to the dealership is all freeway with some significant hills. Tow is free as I have premier AAA, so better safe than risk losing...
2012 here with 97k miles on the clock.
Driving on a long uphill with A/C on full blast, suddenly flashed a message which I didn't quite catch other than noting "overheat"... along with turtle light and CEL. Message on console then replaced by the generic message Check EV system and bring into...
Bringing this back from the dead.
Has everyone sold their car, or is everyone's delay timer working for them consistently these days?
My wife car has on the whole been reliable charging with a failure to initiate every blue moon.
But in the past 2 weeks, the car has failed to initiate...
Lower it and put some narrow/skinny wheels and tires on it.
The stock wheels and tires are the same size as the ICE RAVs. Would be pretty easier to go narrower.
fusiondynamics, how is that accomplished? Granted, I've never given it effort once I realized the battery was dead. Just jumped in the ICE car.
For reference, the CR-1632 can be found at Radio Shack (if you even still have one around). Don't bother with Target or Home Depot.
Hah, you're a month late!
This is definitely important preventative maintenance as it can leave you stranded, unable to drive your car. And that pesky CR-1632 is not the easiest to find.
Wow, that's disappointing!
My neighbor purchased a (used) RAV at the end of last year that had this issue. Brought it in to Frank Toyota at the beginning of this year and had been waiting for a replacement for 3 months. Toyota just bought it back under the used car lemon law.
Nice. I came here looking for more info after seeing the RAV4EV mentiond here - http://www.autoblog.com/2015/06/26/2015-pikes-peak-hill-climb-practice-day-4
Nice to see the stock drivetrain. Looks like some suspension and brake work. Larger wheels and lower profile tires. I'm postulating...
Also to prospective buyers.
It's not all bad as these forums may lead you to conclude.
Many many of us have had problem free vehicles for tens of thousands of miles (including mine @30k). These forums, as with many other vehicle forums, would make it seem that that the RAV4 EV is a...
